Hey guys, I've been lurking the site for quite some time. Anyways, I'm a film major at my college, and I've been thinking about starting a production company to film weddings and such. I also was interested in a side company for tickling.

If anyone is experienced in starting a company, and would like to give me some pointers or things that I should look into first that would be great! I don't know how different the licensing is for these things.

Thanks!

Ask Sergio from body&sole. He juz started a company and is really nice, maybe he'll help you

As I say in all the posts, if you have questions you can e-mail me as well. It may take a little while for me to respond, but when it comes to video and photo businesses I have pleanty of insights. Rule number 1 before you ever buy the equiptment: develop a written business plan. Detail your operating expenses, insurance requirements and liabilities first. Then operating costs for models lawyers and releases. Then check to make sure you won't violate any locval laws or ordinances in your community. If you get to this point its time to consider genre and budget. No matter what you do you must have a compensation plan on paper that is detailed whether the models are paid, partners or revenue sharing. Next check out webmaster resources like GFY boards, cozy frog etc. Now that you have done your research and homework you can see from there where you want to go. Hope this helps, new businesses are hard to get rolling in this economy.

P.S. make sure you have 3 months of operating capital in the bank to.

By the way, weddings are a nightmare at times (5 yrs video and photo experience) always be prepared for the bridezilla meltdowns, extra hours, dry cleaning bills and above all the drunken monkey that sues you for catching him screwing his wifes cousin by accident.

...and I would make sure nobody can connect the wedding thing to the tickling thing.... 🙂

I'd say just ask about any producer and they'll give you some helpful tips..

And remember, where you are is important. Some areas simply have more willing models than others.
