I just saw that on the news. How tragic. My prayers to those affected.

Lifestar (rescue chopper) is confirming 2 dead, 4 critical, 100+ injured and several missing and presumed trapped in the rubble. The fire is out as of about 1:30. Now, they need to see who & what they find.

Praying for all involved.

just watched the breaks news, at least 4 dead. looks like a natural gas leak that caused the explosion. there was supposed to be tests run there today. Governor Rell will be speaking shortly.

News conference is on now...along with more eyewitness interviews. Locals lost windows, foundation & pipes cracked in the area. Shows the power of the blast.

My prayers to all those affected. What a frightening and terrible tragedy.

A bit of good news. They're now scaling back the numbers. Only 50 odd workers on site at the time, rather than the full contingency that would normally be there. So, the casualties aren't looking to be as high as originally expected. Some of the patients report having been thrown 30-40 feet by the blast. So, lots of broken bones rather than burn & crush injuries.

Ten plus hours later and crews are still searching in hopes of finding anyone else still buried in the rubble. Wind chills are in the single digits. That's not a good thing. They're having to be very careful searching. The wind is still blowing around sheet metal and there are sudden gaps in what's left of flooring and framework.

5 confirmed dead. 12 confirmed injured enough to be hospitalized. Nobody knows how many were really there working this morning because there were various contractors involved, each with unknown numbers on site at the time of the blast. As a result, they don't even know how many others could be in there.

Geez. Even one loss is one too many. Thanks for the update Ann. My prayers will continue for those affected.

This is kind of like the Pepcon explosion here in Henderson NV in the 90's.

Fortunately, this blast wasn't as big as that was. Had it been, there'd have been a much higher casualty count. This place is also just a stones throw from the hospital in Middletown. Had this blast been like the Pepcon blast, it would have heavily damaged the hospital as well. I'm sure they have some damage as it is. Homeowners in the area are finding damage...even just across the river in Portland, CT where some homes had windows blown out. The site itself is quite the mess.

My family in the area are all well and good. We are praying for those les fortunate...

They just announced that everyone has now been accounted for. The final figures are 5 dead, 28 injured/hospitalized. Some of those who were injured have now been released. The investigation into the cause continues.

yea I live right across the river from Middletown, and work only about a couple miles away from there, wasn't working yesterday though. Was watching the news and said the explosion sent people flying 40 feet into the air, and sucked a guys garage door out of his house and sent it flying plus windows being blown out of the house. At least everyone has been accounted for and it didn't happen on a weekday when more people would be working there. thoughts and prayers with everyone involved and there families

I know somebody that lives about twenty miles away.

That person heard the blast. I understand that the death toll is now up to five. :sowrong:

yea looks like the final count is 5 dead about 20 injured, although it is still unstable at the plant,, there could be more people there not sure yet
