The other day I got a message from one of the universities I've applied for. I knew I hadn't a hope in hell of getting this course because I only just hit the grade requirements, but because I could apply to five I applied anyway, just incase.
Well it turns out, through some miraclous event that I am one of 25 that got in! I can't believe it. I've heard from many that this was the best university for video games art and design so I am well excited to get a place. It has everything I could've hoped for: We get dual screen PC's that get upgraded every 6 months that can also connect to next gen consoles, we have our own lounge within the computer labs that have every console since the SNES, along with HDTV's and SDTV's, and most importantly it is developed within the industry and is lead by industry proffessionals. I just found out that my console development teacher was one of the workers that did Fable on the xbox, and they have just hired another tutor that was the lead artist for Motorstorm on the PS3. Plus I have a one year work placement at a game company to look forward to.
I am super stoked right now, the future was looking pretty bleak for me: I had no enthuisiasm at all at college, and my grades suffered greatly because of it. I had taken a gap year off because the thought of further education depressed me. I was a lazy pr**k to say the least. The only real thing that interested me during college was 3D design, but there was no chance in hell of doing that there, so I just took it up as a hobby. Just goes to show what happens when you finally get your act together. I never thought I would be saying this, but I am well excited to go back to school
