Recently my computer had a little error screen that came up. I've had massive problems recently with internet pop ups, which I fixed. So when I saw it, I just clicked it to go away, so sadly I forgot what it said, (it was an error message.)

Now, when I click on a link to save as, the mouse turns into the little sand dial, but the window that opens saying where to save it at, and the donwload manager, doesn't open. The mouse just stays an hourglass. If I move the mouse, the hourglass turns back into a cursor arrow. I've tried looking for a solution in google, but I find nothing. Does anyone know what is causing this, and how to fix it?

You might try asking viper for guidence here. He seems to be our resident tech. You'll want to let him know more info. when you do...what computer you're using, your operating system, etc.

Have you tried doing a system restore to a point where things worked properly?

Good luck!

Mabus, might I suggest something to try? Frequently, your cache can become corrupted and, since your downloads are stored in a temporary area of your disk until fully downloaded, a problem can occur. I will assume you are using Internet Explorer from the description you have provided;

  • Under the Tools pull down menu, click on the Delete Files button in the Temporary Internet Files section of this window
  • Then click on the Security tab and click on the Restricted Zone Icon.
  • Ensure that none of the sites you are downloading from are listed within your restricted zone. You probably do not have this condition, but recent sofwtare updates (such as the one I cite below) make this a good thing to check.
Once you've done this, try a download again and see what the results are.

Also, have you recently changed firewall software? Specifically, have you updated to version 6 of Zone Alarm (if you are running Zone Alarm)? If you have, I strongly recommend uninstalling version 6.0 and re-installing your previous version of Zone Alarm from scratch. Zone Alarm 6.0 is a migratory nightmare that prevents such mundane things as e-mails from downloading to your PC if you are using a browser/e-mail comibnation such as Netscape. Plus it does NOT migrate your previous block setting from the version you are migrating from.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

I think whacko here fails to understand that not everyone is as fluent in computer speak as some of us are. You've got to learn to put things in Layman's terms sometime.

Mabus, did you get it fixed?
