The only rap groups I like are Outkast and Afroman... Although some of the political messages in rap have been a lot more insightful than the ones in country....

yeah, rap music is cool. listen to it......
like all music, there are rap songs that arent good, but then there are some that are really good. i have no idea why people criticize rap so much as i guess it's a culture thing. unless you're raised around it, then you wont understand it. same goes for all types of music. guys like Dr. Dre are gifted artists who can come up with unique beats as not EVERY rap song is sampled from another song. plus, there are great lyricists such as 2pac that write amazing rhymes. it is a talent to rap and sound good. try to rap yourself, then go in front of a rap audience and see how difficult it can be.

well, same thing with the really hard blackmetal, deathmetal and grindcore: you have to learn to listen to it

Personally, I'd much rather listen to rap than country, punk, or metal. Tool and A Perfect Circle are about as metal as I like, but that's because they are coherent, unlike most metal. Plus, Maynard James Keenan actually sings too, which is more than I can say for most pop, rap, punk, country, or metal.

PrimeTime.....you are the loudspeaker for my mind! That's exactly what I would write! I've never found a genre of music I could find not one redeeming recording of. And I can't resist the opportunity to list my fave hip hop stuff:heading the list for me would have to be Boogie Down Productions (KRS One) and Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, Biggie Smalls and Method Man (back in the day, before he went Hollywood) and ODB always cracks me up! Also there's 2 more recent rap that I think is pretty underground but you should check out. One is an amazing group called Dalek. They've got at least 2 albums out, maybe more.....I've seen them play in Brooklyn many times, they've got one of the best turntablists I've ever seen, very underground, but really really great. Also I just heard this album by a rapper called El-P recently that I thought was the best hip hop I've heard in many years.
