im sure most people could care less about this, but if you are one of the few people that are interested in mixed martial arts, you might find this almost as exciting as i do..
i have an EXTENSIVE interest in mixed martial arts.. if you couldnt tell, look at the 'rampage in the ufc' thread and look how much i talk about it.. right now, i live in maitland florida.. i am moving to an area 30 minutes away from there in about a months time.. now recently, they have started having MMA events here in orlando.. it has become the second hottest spot for MMA in florida.. they have an event here called combat fighting championships.. i went to the first event and second events, and the second one had some UFC veterans like mike whitehead on the card.. anyway, by going to these events i had the opportunity to become friends withone of the fighters named brian eckstein.. he had his first pro bout at CFC1 and it went to a draw, he is rematching the kid in december at CFC3.. point being, i started talking to him and i found out they opened a gym up in oviedo, which is where i work.. the gym is called KO Fitness, but it is a division of AMERICAN TOP TEAM..
ATT puts out some of the best fighters out there.. i will be trained by/training with the likes of
-seth petruzelli (5-2, UFC vet from TUF2 when he made it to the semi-finals against brad imes, has an upcoming UFC fight against matt hammill, KOTC vet, big heavyweight that moves like a middleweight, beat bob sapp)
-luigi fioravanti (9-1, UFC vet, APEX vet, GCM vet, AFC vet, the whole package.. excellent strikes, good ground game, former marine)
-paul rodriguez (8-7-2, vetran of: UFC, PRIDE, GCM, SHOOTO, HOOKnSHOOT, superbrawl, this guy has fought everywhere and can do anything, he took gomi to a decision in SHOOTO)
-ben saunders (3-0-2, AFC vet, CFC vet, incredible striker.. if you havent heard of him, watch out for him)
so anyway, in a couple of months, im going to start training there.. i have no prior experience in combat sports or wrestling, but i already have extensive knowledge of jiujitsu/submission wrestling because ive been VERY into this stuff for a good three years.. so im going to train submission grappling and kickboxing with ATT orlando, and im looking to have my first pro fight by the end of 2007.. i dont want to rush it, if i feel im ready earlier, i will fight.. but i dont want to go into a pro debut unprepared..
the fact that the gym is close to my work helps out alot too.. i can go there right after work, roll/grapple for a few hours, and go home and call it a night.. ill also be working on muay thai kickboxing as well as traditional kickboxing and traditional boxing.. if the guy wants to stand up with me, ill knock him out with a combination or a head kick.. if he wants to clinch and try to take me down, ill give him knees in the face and elbows to his head.. if he does succeed in taking me down, ill slap a triangle choke, armbar, omoplata, or anything else i can pull off on him.. i want to be ready for wherever the fight could possibly go.. submissions are going to be my main strength, as i love submission fighting.. i also want to enter some ADCC tournaments (abu dhabi combat club, the superbowl of grappling) that are around here sometimes.. but im not going to be a one-dimensional fighter.. im going to work on my striking just as hard as my submissions.. id love the standing KO, but something about making the guy tap out from a submission hold strikes me..
im sure this means nothing to most of you.. but im really f*cking excited about it so i thought id share it.. and when i have my first fight you all can smile knowing theres a ticklephile out there submitting people and knocking people out in a cage haha
take care
