remember the REAL Reason for the Season....

Not a bunch of crappy toys under a dead tree, that will break minutes after opening them;

Not trying on the night of the 23rd of December, thinking," Nutz! I forgot to get a gift for...";

Not stuffing ourselves silly on food and drink and candy;

Not some commercialized image of a fat man in a suit;

But Jesus Christ.

No matter what gift we get/give, just remember Someone has given us the Ultimate Gift;

His only Son.

Humbly,
Lazarus.

yeah, the reason of the season..

happy chanuka you copy-cats!

It seems that commercialism and consumerism has taken over the holiday of Christmas. Of course this holiday was not always the celebration of Jesus. It use to be the Roman celebaration of the Winter Solstice where the Romans would party in the name of the Roman Goddes Saturn. When Christianity became the official religion they changed it to honor Christ's birthday. Although it is very unlikely that Jesus was born anywhere near on December 25th. Now it is begining to look like Jesus has gone the way of the Pagan goodess Saturn, and ole Santa Claus has taken over, and with him consumerism.

Thanks for that note. That's the only thing I even think about when it comes to Christmas. People think I have a "Bah-humbug" thing going, but I simply refuse to be part of "Christmas Inc. - A wholly owned subsidiary of the Wal-Mart Corporation."

Actually I recently got a different story from some of the older people at my church last week:

The 25th of December was apparently celebrated because it was the shortest day of the year (light wise) and so the people would celebrate the unconquered sun (from there on in the days get longer). And after a while, someone decided, "Hey, Jesus is the Unconquered Son" and changed his birthday to the 25th.

Could quite possibly be complementary events... but thats what I got told eitherway.

While symbolicly very appropriate, the date of the observance was assigned to coincide with the pagan holiday for the purpose of drawing people to Christ. Most historians agree that Jesus was actually most likely born in May or June....based upon studies of the original texts documenting his birth and the events it coincided with.

As for Steve, I consider Jews older brothers and sisters in the faith. So, I have no problem at all wishing you a happy chanukah. May the blessings of the season be abundant for all!

...people of the christian faith belive that Jesus is not really dead, but that he must let the world think that he is dead, until he can find a way to control the raging spirt that dwells within him...Happy Chaka Khan everyone!😀

thanks ann!

😀

you should see my house! lights up the ass, lights everywhere!
and in the middle is a 7' star of david, dressed in christmas lights.
see ann, etal., some of us celebrate christmas not as a religious holiday, but as a national holiday, same as thanksgiving, or the 4th of july. to my family it is a secular holiday, with santa as the focal point. you can't denie that in america christmas has broken through the religious bonds? and i thank the gods that it has! cause if it hadn't, we would be working on december 25th instread of partying! :sowrong:

so however you all celebrate, happy holidays! (even you die hard christians, lol)

steve
p.s. joseph, and mary were on their way to pay taxes when emanuel ben joseph was born. in that time taxes were paid after the fall harvest, so "jesus" was born in october.

Sounds nice, Steve. 🙂 I should clarify, however. I have no problem with those of other faiths (or those of no faith) observing it as a secular holiday. The thing I have a problem with is those who profess to be Christian ignoring Christ and only observing the secular holiday rather than the holy day that it is.

AFA the date of birth...It was my understanding that there was a census that year, assigned by Herod to entrap the Christ child after hearing the prophecies of his birth. I'm not sure where that comes from. But, that's what I'd always heard. I guess we'll find out when we die and see Him...not that I plan to worry about little things like that at that point! lol

Happy holidays & holy days everyone!

Ann
