So, this year, I made it official. I have completely become a vegetarian!:woot:

I never really ate much meat anyway after I moved out of my g'rents house. Usually it would just be the occasional shrimp or chicken if I went out to eat which was maybe once every couple of months. Or turkey on Thanksgiving. But I didn't make any last year. I had been doing lots of reading on it last year, and seen all the benefits there are. There are a few downsides mind you, but they can all be easily compensated for. So yeah. I'm meat free and have been since December last year!!

So if you're a vegetarian, or a vegan, whether it's dietary, religion, or personal beliefs. Give a big SHOUT on this thread. 🙂

I've tried to go vegetarian so many times I've lost count. It's just too hard when you go out to eat a lot to find decent dishes on a menu that don't have some type of meat in them, unless you just order pizza, salads and spaghetti whenever you go out. The longest I've ever gone is like a week, and then I'll be super hungry one day and not in the mood for peanut butter and jelly for the 5th day in a row, so I'll give in and eat meat.

Lol. I can understand that. I've taken notice recently that a lot of restaurant (Mexican ones in particular) are beginning to incorporate vegetarian dishes into their menus. I will admit, it's not for everyone though. 🙂 At least you tried. 🙂. Thanks for the reply.

on and off vegetarian.
its horrible and i hate that i always go back to meat.
i am 100% against slaughter houses.

maybe it's time i go back to being a vegetarian... 🙂

Have you tried the Morningstar meat subs?

Here's a shout out for medical reasons... I'm type 2 diabetic, and my doc recommended becoming vegetarian as a fast track to getting off the meds I'm taking. Not totally there yet, but I am eating a lot more salads, and recently learned how to make my own hummus.

When I tried being vegetarian, and became serious about trying, back 4 years ago, I lived off of that type of stuff. The garden burgers, soy milk, soy yogurt, tofu, Amy's brand vegetarian frozen dinners. Although I felt good about not supporting the butchering of animals for the overindulgence of meat, it became crazy Expensive!! There is definitely a price to pay for trying to be vegetarian.

I am a pretty big health nut and I eat lots of fruits and vegetables, but I can see why people that have restricted budgets go for junk foods and meat products. They are cheaper.

What's the policy on fish? I have read articles that claim that fish do not feel pain, so can it really be considered morally wrong to eat fish even if you don't support slaughtering animals? I mean, the main concept behind killing animals being cruel is that they suffer, so if fish don't feel it then how could it be bad?

Can I count BBQ as a veggie? 😀 On a serious note I like many vegetables and fruits and I'm eating more of them these days. That said, I can't imagine a diet devoid of all meat. Nothing wrong with it, if someone goes that route. Its just not for me.

Oh yeah. You're not lying about that my friend. Sounds like you were going for vegan rather than vegetarian though. Which is even more expensive. Lol

Honestly. I hear different things, I read different things. I didn't even know fish wasn't considered a meat product by most until like '05. I totally didn't get that memo. Had to fire my secretary over it.... ok well I don't have a secretary but honestly, I'm going to have to say I don't know. I personally still consider it a meat product, so i don't eat it.

I've known vegetarians on both sides of the fence when it comes to fish. Those who are okay with eating fish separate it from a warm blooded creature such as a cow or pig. Those in the opposite camp make no such distinction. I don't know that a definitive answer to this question exists.

I've decided that I can't stand the idea of any of god's beautiful creatures suffering just so that I can eat. That's why I'm eating meat, and only meat, from now on.

See, meat is dead when you eat it. Fruit, on the other hand, is alive and presumably feeling pain when you take that first bite. Jesus, for all we know about plant nervous-systems, it's feeling terrible pain right up until you eat it down to the core.

And as part of my all-meat diet, I'm also going to consume as much veal as I possibly can. Veal is young when it's slaughtered; it hasn't suffered as much as an adult cow.

Does this make me a vegetarian?

I've heard of, in the past, what I consider probably the healthiest type of diet. It's called "pesca-tarian." Basically, you don't eat animal flesh, but you are okay with eating fish products because the assumption is that fish do not feel pain.

I believe the term is meatatarian. Lol

It's kind of a debatable issue that has no definite conclusion at this point.

Yes, you are right about that. No matter what science may or may not prove however, I'm going to go right on eating and enjoying fish. :hungry:

Sorry I just had to! 😛

Fish is the best source of protein we can eat. Low on calories and fat, and equal in protein to any meat product. I firmly believe humans are omnivores by nature. I won't eat any animal that can comprehensibly befriend a human, such as a dog or cat. Chickens and turkeys are not capable of being domesticated so I have no issue with eating them.

All cows die. So better a quick bolt through the head than some long lingering death from a grass eating condition.
