But last night, I read the Star Wars Tales Vol. 2 graphic novel, and something seriously moved me....

It shows what happened in Empire, where Lando betrays the rebels...

But it shows how C3PO was blown away, and what happened in between...

He was brought to Vader, in pieces, and once Vader was alone, he had flashbacks to when he first made 3PO, and sadly held 3PO's head against his for a moment...

So, this begs to ask...

Could Vader have had a positive streak in him all this time?

ie- Not all turned to the Dark Side?

Kudos to the writers....

🙂

Absolutely! Remember, he was being emotionally manipulated by the Emperor. And with the supposed upcoming events in Episode III, it just him over the edge.

Y'all know that Star Wars is fake...right? :wow:

Hehe.😛

I'll post more on the subject later, as I am, amoungst many others here, a rabid SW fan.

Just wanted to be the first one to reply...stop rolling your eyes, Laz...and Mims...and everyone. 🙂

Cheers.😀

Go back to your hovel, Moses.🙄 😛 😀

Definitely! I mean, the biggest sign is, of course, at the end of Return of the Jedi, when the good within him rises up and gives him the will to destroy (Temporarily at least) the emperor. He was a hot-headed, impulsive kid, who was in love, and that made him suceptible (sp?) to the persuasions of Palpatine. But, not even the Emperor could completely erase the good within him.

There was another brilliant short piece in an issue of Star Wars Tales (I can't remember which issue at the moment) that explains why Leia didn't continue her Jedi training begun in Dark Empire.

Set shortly after the Jedi Academy Trilogy (I hypothesize based on the apparent ages of Leia's children), Leia is taking little Jacen, Jaina and Anakin on a walk in a Coruscant park when they are ambushed by Imperial assassins. Leia proceeds to cry havoc and let slip the appropriate dogs, taking down the assassins in a whirlwind of Force-fueled maternal fury. As she stands over the final goon's prone body, her rage far from spent, he begs her not to kill him. Leia pauses and sees her terrifying reflection in the thug's armor, then looks over to see her children crying behind a nearby hedge, frightened and confused by the violence they've just seen their mother commit. Leia looks back a the thug on the ground, but this time she sees herself reflected in the armor as Vader. Shaken by this glimpse into her own dark side, Leia decides to put her lightsaber away for good.

Pink Lightsabres are gay...

It is interesting that Lucas used a son's love to bring out the humanity in a father whose twisted and evil ways had long overshadowed his belief and desire to do right.

Anakin was originally trained to show compassion, not evil, and that training, along with with his own selfless attitude during childhood, makes that final scene b/w father and son in ROTJ even more powerful than it did when we Jedi-freaks originally saw it.

The original series were definitely patriarchal. You can see Lucas' avoidance of such faux pas in the new series, however, as Senator Padme, former Queen, has a tour de force role within this trilogy. It's nice to see Lucas has at least kept in touch with some aspects of the passages of time...*sigh*.

Anyhoo, the good side of The Force always resided within Anakin. Calling yourself Vader and donning a Teflon suit ain't gonna change that, just like changing your name to Moses and running around with a towel hanging from your backside and calling it a cape ain't gonna bring you the chicks...sadly. 🙁

What else do you find interesting about the SW Universe, Laz, besides the homo-eroticism you find for Vader?

hehe. 😛

Cheers.😀

I'm currently reading the latest Star Wars novel, Tatooine Ghost by Troy Denning (who wrote arguably the best NJO novel Star by Star). This goes way back and is set about six months after Han and Leia's wedding. Han and Leia are on Tatooine to obtain an original piece of Alderaanian art from a shady auction. They wind up running into some Episode I friends of Anakin's that are now in thier late 40's...Kitster, the Rodian Wald and others. Leia starts to find out more and more about her heritage and Anakin's childhood. The interesting thing is that at this point we find that she is dead-set against having children, given thier heritage. She doesn't even want to take the chance that "Vader blood" could eventually turn her and her children against each other.

I'm only about half-way through it, but it's a very interesting read and ties up a lot of loose ends between the trilogies.

As it has already been pointed out, yes, Vader does still have remnants of Anakin Skywalker within him. Its important to note that Vader isn't evil, he's just serving the cause of domination and control and he manipulates the Force (which is neither light nor dark itself but is used to different ends and effects). Palpatine is the one who is evil, pure evil. And this overwhelming power proved up until ROTJ to be the control mechanism by which Anakin was so easily subdued, subdued but not destroyed.

Palpatine nutured Anakin's ego, comforted him when he was frustrated, and even saved him from certain death when his fellow jedi 'left him for dead' (which I'm assuming he might thing provided Episode III ends this way or leads to this at all). I wouldn't doubt that in some ways perhaps Anakin, even as Vader, saw Palpatine as some sort of a father-figure, replacing the protection Qui-Gon gave him in his time with him.

Anakin isn't stupid, but its out of a desperate belief that Palpatine is right that he goes along with it. That and all the other things which have fueled his anger and resentment for the Order and the course of his life thus far.

I'm sure, no matter what happens, and no matter how the movie is rated and reviewed after, that the Kenobi/Vader duel will be the high point and possibly most memorable scene in not just this movie but perhaps the entire Star Wars saga. That and the Palpatine duel 😀
