I was reading that the ref from the OU/Oregon game that made a couple of bad calls this weekend is recieving death threats from Sooner fans. IT'S JUST FOOTBALL!!! I don't understand idiots calling a man's house and telling him that they are going to kill him and his family, for making a mistake. It may have cost one team a game, but it's not worth threatening a man's entire family. It's not like this is the first time a referee has made a bad call in football history. God...what's wrong with people? I think sports have gone too far sometimes.

ps. Sorry for the rant....people make me wonder sometimes! :ermm:

Completely agree...

people get WAY too emotional about sports, especially football! I mean sure I care if the team I'm rooting for in any sport does well, and I dislike bad calls, but they're games! Someone wins; someone loses. That's part of the game.

What a Shame

That is a shame, Its just a GAME. When will people learn that sports are just for fun. I understand people get emotional when it comes to any sports but to threaten a man and his familys lifes that is going way over the line.

Some people live through their teams, doesn't matter what sport and when I say live I mean "live", every aspect of their life is connected to their chosen team, I should know.

When MSV Duisburg was is the second division they offered me a trial contract where I would go and train with them and pretty much see if I had anything to offer them. I received hate mail, phone calls - everything from their fans saying they dont wont a "half breed playing on their team" I still dont know how they got my contact info but it proves how these people operate with anything regarding their team.

I admit the death threats are bit extreme but they are more then likely just empty threats as they are probably venting their anger on the person that they feel cost them their perfect season.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that happened to you too. I guess I just don't understand how people can get THAT emotional over a game. Sure, I love watching my teams play just as much as the next person, but, if they lose, I'm not going to go hang the coach or anything.
Even if they are just empty threats, that still doesn't give them the right to make them.

................that would be just like me, to jump on that trampolene and crash into the pool!!

I agree, though I am a BIG football fan I do try to keep perspective on the game!!!!!

Don't feel bad. The Saskatchewan Roughriders missed the Grey Cup a few years back because the kicker missed a field goal. Said kicker had his house vandalized pretty badly for a good few weeks.

It's everywhere.

Snail Shell

Here's what I remember:

Back in the 1994 World Cup, the goalkeep for Colombia watched the winning goal go past him somewhere around the 90th minute of the match. Two days later, he was shot to death. Apparently, some of the uh...very important people in his country lost a bit of their ill-gotten wealth on the game.

Sports can be a matter of life or death.

In my senior year of high school, I was at a basketball game against the school that was our major rival and one of their refs made a questionable call. Long story short, the two teams started brawling, immediately followed by some of us in the stands going down to join them.

It's out of hand everywhere, parent's attacking coach's and officals at little league games, and even player's on other teams.A few years ago the Royal's were playing in Detroit i think and some ass and his son came out of the stand's and attacked the Royal's first base coach. There was a huge brawl of course and the coach suffered permenant hearing loss as a result of the attack.

In philly they throw Batteries at several players who return in opposing jerseys for baseball games

Yet another reason why i dislike the east coast

I am a fan, if someone on the team i support(like niu phil horvath) is sucking, i want him gone, and ive actually been screaming for an unfortunate accident for him for the past 2 years

With sports money is involved as well as personal pride. Refs are also paid to do the game unbiasedly and evenly. If they cant do that they shouldnt ref

It was a drunk fan at the chicago\royals game. I wanna say it was tom gamboa who was attacked

Ugh...you guys are right it is everywhere. Maybe it is because money's involved...people get crazy with their money. Still makes me embarassed.

Some people take it very seriously. That being said, it is dumb and completely classless of the Sooner fan to act that way. I wonder if those Sooner fans ever made a mistake in their life.

there is nothing to be ashamed of

TF4F................the Sooner fans' mistake is rooting for the Sooners!!! :yowzer:

By the way a little Oklahoma history..........The Sooners are named because during the land run, these people actually got to the site early and claimed land before the land run actually started............CHEATERS! So,...what did we learn today?

SOONERS= DIRTY, STINKIN' CHEATERS!!!! :jester:

Competition drives some people over the edge and three or four beers can help them along in this venture . Some people need to work on their anger and self control , but there are those few that don't seem to grip the concept of it being just a game and not something to be taken so personal or so violently .
