The Braves have played 18 games this year and have already been shutout four times.

The Braves have also scored 4 or less runs in 12 out of those 18 games.

Chipper has already missed games do to injury.

Middle of the lineup hitter Troy Glaus has been a bust to this point

Thank goodness for the rookie Heyward or it could be alot worse

They're still better than my Pirates... outscored 35-1 in a three-game home series vs. the Brew Crew...

no offense...

But the Pirates are really no more than a AAA farm team for other clubs.

They have either over the hill veterans or play rookies .

The Braves are counting on often injured and aging Chipper Jones and an apparently declining rapidly Troy Glaus to be the middle of the lineup hitters

I'm a Braves fan, and, it's painful to watch them, especially at the plate. They've lost five in a row now, with the 1-0, rain shortened setback to the New York Mets at Citi Field last night.

The Braves starting pitching has actually been very good. Most of the time, the starters give up three runs or less, but just can't get any run support.

Braves GM Frank Wren needs to trade for another hitter, and soon. The only reason that the Braves aren't completely buried in the NL East already, is that the Phillies haven't gotten off to a blazing start. I said before the season that I felt Philly would win the NL East easily, but that the Braves had a chance for the wild card. For the latter to happen, one of two things needs to occur. Either the Braves lineup needs to start hitting, and fast, or, Wren needs to get another hitter.

I'm a member of the Atlanta Journal Constitution website, and the "Fire Frank Wren" threads abound all over the fan vents of the site. Bobby Cox has nothing to worry about. He has already announced his retirement, so, if the Braves lose 100 games this year, or win 100 games, it has no affect on his job status. On the other hand, if Wren doesn't get another hitter, and the team continues to flounder, maybe he should be fired.

One final thing. The entire Braves lineup is all in a slump at once. The law of averages says that at least some of the hitters will snap out of it. However, this needs to happen soon, to prevent the Braves from being buried in both the division and wild card races.

Cox wont be stepping down now. As you probably know, he's retiring after this season anyway, and it would look bad if he left in the middle of what he said is going to be his last season.

The Braves need a hitter, pure and simple. Their GM needs to make a trade. If he doesnt, and they continue to struggle, its time for him to be shown the door.

Yeah they are. Absolutely no offense taken. You could really insult them all you want and I wouldn't get offended (seriously, go nuts).

Be taht as it may, I think they are legitmately trying to rebuild (like the Rays, Marlins, A's or Twinkies) w/ NH in charge this time. And every Buc fan that has hung around the last 17 years is praying it finally happens.

Heyward is their meal ticket right now. McCann is probably their #2 option. The rest of their hitters (SS Escobar, Prado, Melky, Chipper, Glaus) are either unproven or coming off injuries.

Their pitching is good enough to keep them in games, though, so I think despite the tough division, they'll push onward past 80 wins.

Despite their early struggles, I think they have tons of potential and not alot to worry about... yet.

One of the beat writers at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, who covers the Braves, suggested that the Braves should make a trade to get Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres. I agree with him. Gonzalez is still young, has awesome power, has a very affordable contract for the Braves, at less than 5 mil a year, and most importantly, would allow the Braves to bench or release Mr Troy Glaus, who currently sports an awesome .186 batting average.

I hope that Braves GM Frank Wren makes a deal for Gonzalez. If I know Wren, he will wait, saying it is early, and the Braves shouldnt panic yet, and by the time he does finally make a move, the Braves would never be able to catch the Phillies for the NL East, and will have fallen out of the wild card race as well.

I don't see how the Braves would leapfrog the Red Sox and/or M's (among others) who are in the Gonzalez sweepstakes and even if they did, I can't see how they pull off a trade without severely mortgaging their future (Jurrjens or Hanson, for example).

Remember the Mark Texiera trade???

If the Braves trade for a bat, I think it will be a much lesser name similar to/in the mold of Nate McClouth and Mark DeRosa (both of whom found new teams last year).

Mass, I dont know if you heard, but Howard just signed a contract extension last night. He's going to be in Philly for several more years. If they keep Howard there, and have a couple of other good hitters, and decent pitching, the Phillies might well embark on a decade long run like the Braves did. Right now, there is no team in the NL East even close to the talent that the Phillies have.
