interesting quote on why people like to tickle others

Good topic! :bounce:

I think it makes sense and I can see why the laughter would encourage more tickling! I know I really enjoy hearing/seeing a lee who's laughing and appearing to have a good time!

Gotta watch out for those sadistic folks though who just like to watch ya suffer though lol!

But then there are those ticklers out there that enjoy seeing a lee be tickled until tears or until she/he's so upset that they're begging and screaming, not laughing, so perhaps they have another motivation that they use? I've always wondered about what makes those kinds of lers tick??? Is it the fact that they really enjoy the torture aspect? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

C.R. Harris - The tickle researcher lol, now that is a job and a half! I have heard one scientific explanation for why tickling causes laughter, apparently it is the body's way of reacting to the surprise element so if you try to tickle yourself it is not a surprise so you don't react in the same way... Not sure about the question about carrying on with it if it caused a negative facial expression because things like spanking usually do and there are many people who enjoy it still... It is not easy to be in a bad mood if you are smiling though so maybe tickling is a brilliant way for the sadists among us to torture someone and make them feel happy at the same time😀

I la la love watching a Lee's face when I'm playing with them. I feed off of their responses. So it makes me want to cause more when I see I'm getting a satisfactory response.

"...the smiling and laughter encourage the tickler to continue. If tickling produced a negative facial expression, conspecifics would be far less likely to engage in it..."

The smiling and laughter give the tickler the impression that the ticklee is enjoying themselves, even if the ticklee is frantically begging and pleading for mercy as they desperately try to get away.

The smiling and laughter also give the ticklee the impression that even though he/she is frantically begging and pleading for mercy as he/she desperately tries to get away.

The conflicting feelings are what drive the "rush", as you twist and turn in helpless laughter.

Oh me too Jo...but what ler's often forget it that because of the smiling and laughter is that our conscience's are often quieted by that fact when indeed it might be pure torture to the lee. In our world we don't play like that usually because of who we choose to play with but in regular everyday tickling situations alot of people who get tickled are steaming mad afterwards even though they smiled and laughed...

Overall the statement is true though 🙂

peace out,
daddy

daddy beat me to it, but I think the above is so true and I couldn't have stated it
better myself. 🙂

I very much agree with this, It is one of the things I really enjoy
about tickling. The smiling and laughing face of a lee really does
dictate how I tickle and how much I tickle. Plus it's so fun to watch.

On a side note. I remember reading about that experiment and C.R. Harris in a newspaper article
many years ago. Very interesting with her little fake tickle machine/robot arm and the assistant
who hid under the table to perform the actual tickling. Quite a study to say the least.

I read a book on body language not too long ago, and it theorized that, anthropologically speaking, laughter is an evolved form of the 'stress release' response found in chimps.

Couple that with the fact that most of the time, what we find 'funny' is actually unexpected or unfortunate (eg. slapstick, 'long as it's happening to the other poor bastard), and it makes perfect sense that being tickled elicits laughter.

So how much does that make sense to all of you?

While I agree that the smiling and laughter encourage a tickler to continue....I must express that not everyone has these particular reactions. Some people actually have negative facial expressions in response to tickling.

So yes I feel that it is one factor, but there must also be other factors that encourage a ler to go on. I don't think it can only be those to factors that encourage play to continue.

I also would like to know :jester:

Yes torture!

I like the torture aspect of tickling. Both as a ler and as a lee. Its just a light and safe form of BSM. If rules (safeword) are respected, its fantastic! The contro-being controled at the mercy of...its just sexually arousing.

Just my thoughts
By the way, in fantasy the tickle torture secenario is in my case, much more extreme. In real life its less brutal

You could just tell a joke if all you want is smiles & laughter

I thank Diego for saying, "I like the torture aspect of tickling. Both as a ler and as a lee. Its just a light and safe form of BDSM. If rules (safeword) are respected, its fantastic! The control - being controlled at the mercy of . . . "

Those words helped me finally articulate the thought I had since viewing this question two and a half days ago.

Like other forms of touch, tickling is a way two communicate. The tickler provokes and the ticklee responds. When I tickle a woman I'm telling her I like her and want as much attention as she will give me. Her response conveys how she feels about me and sets the limit of how much of the attention I seek she will provide.

But the action starts before I lay even one ticking finger on her, as people communicate mostly with other nonverbal actions. Ideally, the woman I choose to tickle has chosen to give me the opening to get close. Maybe she does not know I'm a tickler, but she allows me within arm's reach - although she does not have to do so. If I've read her right, the good times start. But if I've read her wrong, she is quickly out of arm's reach again!

Those who don't understand the dominant-submissive relationship two people can have would have viewed some intense tickling I've administered as taking advantage of my ticklees. But it was just how we communicated with each other, and I knew the limits I had to respect with each woman.

I mean, if all I want is smiles and laughter I would tell jokes. Tickling is how I communicate to a woman that I want to get down with her!
