My question is whether there are any members who would like to discuss investments on this thread? I tend to focus on stocks and other fairly liquid securities but this thread is open to all.

I don't mind sharing my philosophy and some of my better picks. I have a financial background ....but I pick loosers just as well as the next guy.

Let me know if any of you want to chat and I'll contribute.

I'm Canadian and tend to follow the TSE. I know US securities but not nearly as well as Canadian ones.

Personally, I highly recommend people buy Applied Digital and odyssey
Marine Exploration. Like, NOW. Sirius Satellite radio, too, but not until February '06, please.

I'm not greedy, so most of my money is in bluechips.

I've learned some hard lessons in the 'market' over the years.
I'm now out of stocks, but knowing what I know now,
index funds are the way to go.

The roaring market of the late 90's is history and will never return.

Some of you have been jaded by the dot. com bubble....that for the most part was speculation not investment. Valuations based on multiples of Revenue?...Please.

I do my own picks....I don't bat 1,000 by any means but I'm reasonably disciplined about selling the loosers and holding the winners. I've done well the past few year sticking to Oils and Financials and a few others...I like growing earnings, revenue and dividends. I check the graph of the stock ....If it's going up thats good, if its going sideways after comming down for a length of time....I watch and wait and avoid it if its' moving down...no matter what the fundamentals say.

I try to do 8 - 10 % a year.....and tend to do a lot better picking lower growth stocks that I think will to 8-10 but end up doing 15-25. Vs picking ones that are supposed to do 20+....I'm rarely rewarded for that risk I find.

Here are a few I like now .....and some I'm thinking of. I'll give you the Yahoo symbol where XXXX is nasdaq or NYSE and XXX.TO is Canadian.

TD.TO - Toronto Dominion Bank - it'll grow at 10 - 15% a year maybe more...not too exciting but it won't likely drop 20% one day either. Nice dividend helps too.

ECA.TO - Undervalued big Oil and Gas Co.
SU.TO - Oil Sands Oil Co. (Oil reserves of Arabic proportions in them sands)
L.TO - Best supermarket I know...plugs along and makes pretty good money.
PCA.TO - Undervalued big Oil co.
HD - I like it ....it's a bit volatile but it plugs along nicely.

Thinking of:

TEK.SV.B.TO - Big intergrated mininig co...gold, copper, zinc, etc.
PFE - Too big a pipeline and demographics in its favour to be down for ever. Still the market is awfully hard on big pharm.
