Is betterment an actual word?

Ok, I am not an english expert by an any means. Now I know that Betterment is an investment company, but I never knew that betterment is an actual word. As most sports fan know the Boston Red Sox fired manager John Farrell today. According to Boston Red Sox President of Baseball Organizatoin David Dombrowski's press conference, he said "I thought it was appropriate to make a change for the betterment of the organization to move forward.

HMM Mr. David Dombrowski, I never know betterment was an actual word. Really, if I am wrong that I am sorry. Then I guess you learn something new every day. If not you better taken some english classes Mr. David Dombrowski.
