Chipper Jones is likely going to retire either at some point this season or at the end of it. His numbers aren't anything spectacular, but keeping in mind he had an injury filled second half to his career he still has over 400 homers, a .306 career batting average and around 2500 hits. However, I personally don't think he has 1st ballot stuff. He didn't spend nearly as much time as Griffey on the DL, but has over 250 less career hits and he never won a gold glove award. I am honestly not sure he isn't even a hall of famer for sure. Tell me what you think.

first ballot he will get in but i could see it taking awhile like 5-10 years

Agreed, and if he does get in it will only be because his number were better than other players who are up for voting that year. Then again he does have overall better statistics than Andre Dawson.

Yes, he's a first ballot HOF, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Braves fan. I'd say it even if he played for a team I didnt like. While he has been very injury prone, the guy had a .307 career average coming into this year, and he now has 430 HRs. He's been an MVP, has won a World Series, and a batting title. He has been to the playoffs at least eleven years.

Most baseball writers agree with my view. With those numbers, even with all the injuries, first ballot HOF, even if he retired today.

Chipper Jones is NOT a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. But he is indeed a Hall of Famer. First Ballot? Spoken like a true Braves fan. His numbers are not in Ken Griffey Jr. who is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer without thinking about it.

I mean you are putting Chipper in as a no-brainer like Willie Mays or Henry Aaron or Tom Seaver or Mickey Mantle. Chipper is none of those players. You bring up the 430 career HRs but there are guys who are NOT in the Hall of Fame with more HRs. You have Dale Murphy who is a 2 time MVP that is NOT in the Hall of Fame. While some of the other numbers I agree with, I don't think he is first ballot.

I am one of the few Mets fans who actually likes Chipper Jones and admires his career. Do I think he is a Hall of Famer? Absolutely. First ballot? Not even close. But he is a future Hall of Famer in my opinion.

I think Craig Biggio will be because he got 3000 career hits, but I definitely don't think Chipper is 1st ballot. If Roberto Alomar was not 1st ballot when he was one of the Greatest 2nd baseman of all time, then Chipper is by no means getting in on the 1st go.

Chipper has a chance depending on when he retires, but in theory I'll say he isn't (I'm thinking 45% chance yes and 55% chance no)

Biggio is not first ballot though, because as you so clearly state, even Robbie Alomar was not and Biggio was not better than Robbie Alomar.

Yea, but I think 3000 career hits guarantees you a first ballot admission into the Hall. 500 plus homers is different because of the roid era, but 3000 career hits is really impressive.

However, I just checked stats, and it makes literally NO SENSE how Robbie Alomar wasn't a sure thing in the first ballot run. He had a career .300 batting average, 2700 career hits, and a ridiculous 10 GOLD GLOVES!!!!!

Biggio only had a career .287 batting average and just 4 gold gloves.

To be honest, I think Alomar was intentionally snubbed because a lot of people never forgave him for spitting at that umpire. His numbers certainly were worthy of a 1st ballot induction.

Fuck Roberto Alomar, he totally choked with the Mets... I hate that fucking useless prick!

this...

Except the part about being a Mets fan . NOBODY likes the Mets. Go Rangers

He was well into his 30's by the time he played with the Mets and they stunk.

The rest of his career prior to NY was stellar though.

Every team he played for was a playoff contender.

True that 3000 hits is a milestone, but one can't really compare Biggio to Chipper.

For starters, Chipper was a top-10 player in his prime, which lasted a good 10 years. Biggio was just a good 2B who got OB for 20 years (although he did have 5-6 dominant years).

I just don't see how if Chipper isn't a first balloter than how could Biggio be?

Both are really good though and will get in.

I don't get it much either.

It could be the spitting thing, or the roid allegations, or it could have been sympathy for the older playrs who were held out all those years.

That's why timing is everything and come to think of it, I don't see how Chipper could ever be a first balloter without suberb timing and alot of good press.

Good call on the Chipper to Biggio comparison. We forget that Biggio hit in the same lineup as a roided up Bagwell most of his career, where as Chipper pretty much was the big guy in Atlanta with not much hitting around him the majority of his career.
