Is The NBA Season Starting Too Early This Yaar?

As those who follow the NBA are aware.

The regular season for the NBA starts in less than three weeks.

At which time, the World Series will not even have started.

It used to be .. that the NBA would not start. until the very last days of October, or the first week in November. The World Series was usually over by then.

I've heard that the reason why the NBA decided to start two weeks earlier this year, is to give the players more off days during the seaso, and also to assure that the NBA Finals would end the first days of June, instead of in the third week of June, as had happened in many years.

I believe that, many years ago, before I was born, the NBA would start by mid October.


In that time, the NBA had far fewer playoff games, and rounds of the playoffs, then they do today.

Now, teams that get into the NBA Finals, play potentially four rounds of series, of seven games each.

Thoughts on the NBA season, and the earlier start?
 
As much as I hate to see anything take people away from baseball, it's probably good in the name of player safety to be doing this. But the NBA playoffs just take so incredibly long now, and in recent years the only interesting rounds are the first round and the championship. I don't know if there's a way to shorten them, but I'd love for there to be.
 
I did not see this post until now.

With the NBA season having started a few days ago, Secretlee.

I think, that the NBA could potentially shorten every round before the NBA Finals, to five games each.

This way, they are eliminating... potentially eight games from the playoff schedule.

They will not do this, due to the TV and ticket revenue.

They could also reduce the regular season schedule to between 75 and 80 games, and start the playoffs a week or two earlier, so that again, the schedule is reduced, and the season would be definitely over by the first week in June.

Again, not likely to happen, because of the loss of TV, ticket sales, and merchandising revenue.
