Is tickling a fetish, or just a game?

Hey everyone...

(EDIT: 6/16/11... I know that wikipedia isn't a great source for valid info due to it being able to be edited by anyone... The purpose of this thread is to see if you think the "interest of tickling" should be considered just a game or a full blown paraphillia. 🙂 )

I was looking on wikipedia for info on tickle fetishism, but then I see that the article for "tickle fetishism" has had it's title changed to "tickle games".

Check it out...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tickling_game

The reason for this is because one of the users said that "it is too specific to classify typical tickling as a fetish".

But this doesn't seem right to me...

Last time I checked, a fetish is a sexual arousal to a physical object or a situation/activity. So if this is the case, and tickling is capable of providing sexual arousal, wouldn't that confirm that tickling CAN be considered a fetish?

The info in the article suits tickling as a fetish. A classification of a "game" seems like something more spontaneous and competitive...

What do you guys and gals think?

Is what we love just a big game? :ghostie:

It may well be a bit of both. the challenge element of tickling someone is something I enjoy, and that can both be a fetish and a game at the same time I guess.

Wikipedia is hardly an authority on this sort of query. Who gives a crap how their organize their articles?

There are alot of people who refuse to accept tickling as a type of fetish. Apparently wikipedia is one of those people.

Also, tickling is probably one of the only fetishes that can be both. Some people tickle each other because it's a fetish and turns them on, other people tickle each other because it's just fun.

But other fetishes, like cutting people or spanking, you typically don't do that for fun, it usually turns you on for one reason or another if you do it.

A fetish is like seeing or wanting a piece of clothes like underware or socks or shoes a certain part of the body like the feet ,foot fetish is big . Tickling is an act

I rigged the "love dice" so the action one is all tickling...

If it is a dance, shouldn't there be black feather guides on the 'lee to let you know where to next tickle ......? Arthur Murray Inc. strangely only had the black shoe guides in stock and then blocked my number after I called back to...... It can be playful, fun, erotic, stress relieving, teasing, depending on the relationship and mood of the participants( ok pants optional). **** sings off key as always*** "Tickling is a many splendid thing........"

Tickling is a fetish.

LIFE is a game, Bombers.

Ha ha ha. Tickling is a lot of things, I guess. To me it used to seem weird to call it a fetish, since in most cases a fetish involves associating sexual feelings with something that isn't inherently sexual. But IS tickling inherently sexual? Yeah. Kinda.

I mean it's like having a boob fetish. Or a kissing fetish. So wait...kissing turns you on? How weird. Yeah. Tickling is just kind of whatever you want it to be.

YAY for tickling.

Of course it's a fetish, and the definition of "fetish" is still in the process of being debated and reformed. That Wikipedia doesn't know what to do with it, is appropriate.

Mmm ..The change in terminology may simply reflect a veiw that this particular fetish is becoming more familiar to people. Its like BDSM fetishs are now increasingly called Bondage games or Bondage play.

It can be either, or both, or any number of things. Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, which opens it to alteration by a lot of people who are full of shit.

I would've preferred the word 'play' but whatever.

There are two common usages of the word "fetish" tossed around these days:

1.) the lay perspective - fetish is type of fixation or obsession. (sexual, material, etc.)

2.) the scientific perspective (from the DSM-IV TR) - fetish is sexual arousal sparked by an inanimate object.

Obviously, 1 is a more convenient and passing use of the term fetish, whereas 2 is technically more accurate. Also, keep in mind that the DSM doesn't recognize erotic play in its criteria. So, technically, no. It isn't a "fetish." Would you consider role-play a fetish? My guess is you probably wouldn't. What about men who like to wear women's clothes? I'd say no to that as well. What about people who incorporate food into their sexual repertoire? That probably wouldn't fly as a "fetish" either.

We have different words to describe different things because the small differences make all the difference. Personally, I don't think you can compartmentalize sexual activity this way but some people like to use these as guides to help them understand sexuality better, while others are just using these terms to deal with the ambiguity.

for sure a fetish but a great one to have lots of laughter is always involved with this fetish

Well, I had a therapist that I spoke to a few years ago -

*Audience groans*

No, this is good stuff!

He told me that generally there are different levels ... he had specific terminology, but I thought of it as: a turn-on, a kink, a fixation and a fetish (or paraphelia if we want to get fancy).

A turn-on is something arousing that leads to sexual intimacy and encompasses a wide, wide variety of things. When some chucklehead on the internet says he has dozens of fetishes, this is usually what he means... that he's turned on by lots of things nominally.

A kink is something that is consistantly effective in arousal and can have some degree in focus in sexual intimacy without being vital to any sexual activity. Most people have at least a couple of these, even if they're too timid to try.

A fixation means that the object/act/body part is necessary for full sexual gratification, but doesn't have to take the place of sexual activity.

A fetish is when it's begun to take the place of sexual activity.

The media takes all this and lumps it all together and largely condemns it, which my therapist said is a pretty bad thing. It makes people afraid to experiment or occasionally indulge in some different things for fear of being thought of as abnormal.

I definitely have a fixation, but not a fetish as much, and even that clarification helped me get through a few things I was going through at the time. So I think Wikipedia is doing the right thing by allowing broader definitions like 'tickle games' instead of 'tickle fetishes.'

I am deleting my posts, threads, comments, etc. It's a shame. I am certain they will remain on record "somewhere". But in light of the ever increasing invasion of privacy, I will not make it easy for the NSA or any other Government agency to gather my "intelligence". So, sorry if this offends, comes across paranoid or whatever. It sucks our country is in this mess. Take it light folks, I'm permanently out.
