Today taught me a lesson of just how much little things can mean. I went out intending to have lunch at my favorite Chinese buffet here, the Peking. I arrived there after 12:30, and found the place dark, with no sign saying closed for today, or for vacation or what not, and I was really upset. I thought for sure that they had gone out of business, as I know the owners, two young guys in their 20s from China, and I know that they've said the buffet hasnt done well at certain times in the past year. I ended up going to Cactus Willie's, an American buffet in the same shopping center. Later on, when I finished, before I walked to the car, I took a walk over there, and fortunately they were open. I went to see the owner, Jason, a young hardworking guy of only 28 who also has a buffet in Buffalo, NY. He told me that the workers had a little party last night, and got started late. I was relieved, and will be going there later on this week. In the five years I've lived here, I've gone there at least once a week from the beginning, as it was first owned by his brother in law, then by him. I love his food, and today Jason assured me that he's still there. It's a trivial incident perhaps, but one that makes you realize to appreciate the little things. Sometimes it's comforting to know that your favorite place to eat is just there for you to go to. A place where you can feel comfortable, the food is great, and everyone knows you by name.
