To all my metal heads here, GL has a problem

BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received a number of e-mails regarding last night's (August 20) Ozzfest concert in Devore (near San Bernardino), California, which reportedly included an on-stage appearance following IRON MAIDEN's set by Sharon Osbourne during which she called MAIDEN vocalist Bruce Dickinson a "prick." The following report was submitted by David Priest, editor-in-chief of On Track Magazine:

"Last night's [August 20] headlining performance of IRON MAIDEN at Ozzfest in San Bernardino, CA rendered some interesting, if not disturbing, results. Although MAIDEN played one hell of a show, they were under attack from the moment they began their set. From the time they hit the stage, they suffered power loss on at least three occasions and they were continuously pelted with ice, bottle caps, and eggs, among other things. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson was even spit on by one attendee. He seemed to believe these occurrences were not by accident and insinuated that they had been planned from the beginning of the night [Download MP3 files of Bruce's on-stage rants at last night's Ozzfest: Bruce#1, Bruce#2]. He also encouraged the other audience members to break the arm of anyone that they saw throwing things their way. Upon concluding their performance, the emcee for the evening began to chant Ozzy, Ozzy while Bruce was still speaking. Bruce retaliated by chanting MAIDEN. After he left the stage, Sharon Osbourne took over the mic and informed the crowd that they absolutely loved IRON MAIDEN and their crew and stated that they were all wonderful but that their singer Bruce Dickinson was a prick and had disrespected Ozzfest since they began their stint with the touring summer festival [Download MP3 file of Sharon's anti-Bruce rant at this location]. This, of course, came as a shock to those of us in attendance and the there was ample confusion and speculation from audience members there after. As previously announced, last night's show marked the final performance of IRON MAIDEN on this year's Ozzfest. VELVET REVOLVER will be taking over their slot on the last remaining dates."

Apparently sharon had kelly and some of her bitch friends hiding in the pit and throw shit at them

good god that's just wrong. don't know what the hell happened. thought sharon was rather nice. already knew kelly was ugly and annoying. but damn, that's just wrong for anyone ESPECIALLY IRON FREAKIN MAIDEN!

So her being a bitch is only official NOW? LOL! Kidding. Whatever, I don't care. So she pissed some people off perhaps without thinking before speaking or choosing better words to phrase her feelings (however justified she may have felt they were). It happens, and she may or may not apologize later for it or release a statement. She'll recover, and if anything, become more popular for it. That whole family is known as a spectacle anyway. So her being seen by some as someone who runs her mouth isn't going to be shocking.

Its just like with that whole Bill Cosby incident where Cosby had mentioned the Osbourne family and how they are basically a plague on society and that they are "sorry people". In an interview, Sharon, with her family (including Ozzy) by her side openly stated how she felt about how Cosby had addressed her family. She handled it really well (but for all we know her publicists told her to be that way) and she kindly explained herself and defended her family on network tv.

Sharon and Ozzy, at the end of the interview even stated that they still like Bill Cosby, enjoy his past works, and respect him even after his comments. Ozzy even went so far as to say he's a fan and always has been and will be.

If that interview was any indication of her true nature as a person and as a mother and wife, then perhaps she will release a public statement and either reword herself and clarify her meaning and intent and/or apologize outright. Alternatively, she may not feel she owes him anything. And I'd understand that being that she and her family are pretty much being accused of setting the band up(no matter who's suggesting it). And if thats not true, then calling him a prick (in retrospect) or anyone else for that matter isn't as bad as the aligation itself. It insinuates pettiness on her and her family's part, so its understandable. To also assume that her calling him a prick (an opinion she holds) and the band being set up is some elaborate scheme on the part of the Osbournes to defame the band is also reason to be irrate later on. Unless it can be proven, I don't believe its right to assume she'd go to these lengths or her family would just because she doesn't like him.

Since the comment was directed at an individual, namely this Bruce Dickenson, and not the entirety of the band itself, then its his issue alone if he chooses to make it one. Naturally I'm expecting that if they try and milk her comment that it would be the whole band defending him, making this more complex and stupid than it needs to be.

Thats show business for you.

Vlad, there is no proof that Bruce or maiden ever badmouthed ozzy, Bruce has been nothing but honorable and saying how they loved doing Ozzfest rather than a tour. Ozzfest should be the honored oned because they had a band that can sell out arena's on name alone. Bruce\maiden were also the main show for a few shows since ozzy cant do back to back shows

Also vlad, you dont address the acts of the PA announcer interrupting the show, hiring people\handing out eggs to be thrown and cutting their instruments 3 times during show

Also, during the song "the trooper", bruce runs out in a brittish red military uniform and waves the union jack. This show, sharon sent out a crony of the osbourne family to run out there with an American flag to disrupt the show.

Sharon's actions ruined a good bands performance and cheated the fans out of their money

I didn't say Maiden badmouthed anyone. As far as the rest, prove that she and her family had it arranged. For all you know, this is Maiden's doing up until the point where Sharon gets involved on her own, which would make sense if her family is being set up.

All I'm seeing is a one-sided story. Its quite possible its the other way around, with Maiden trying to defame the Osbournes as a publicity stunt in lieu of this being the last performance of the year, perhaps to spite what they feel is bad treatment of them over the years.

I'm not a "metal head" myself, so I don't care. I'd just rather the facts of the matter be displayed, and not anything but. If a fact can be linked to a person who can be named then thats a start, otherwise its just conjecture and finger-pointing.

Iron Maiden is no more obsolved from pettiness than the Osbournes are, or any group for that matter.

But what pettiness did maiden do/resort to? Assuming there was no badmouthing from their camp, what did they do. If anything they had remarkable showmanship for not stopping the show

Its not about badmouthing, thats something you could do whenever. If this was a set up on their part then thats what they've done, duh.

As for not stopping the show, thats easily just as much a believable cherry added to the topping. It makes perfect sense to set up a situation to look bad for someone else, and then go out there and make it look like you're the victim but the strong one, and big enough to endure it. It makes you look noble, bold, and mature. Which would be a contrast between the image of what they'd be trying to portray by doing this in the first place- Maiden= Good, Osbournes= Bad. This creates a sense of pride in the fans and further cements their ties and loyalties. And its the perfect way for Maiden to stick it to the Osbournes for any past misgivings.

Try and look at this from more than one point of view, and then you'll see what I mean. I'm not saying one did something while the other did not, I'm saying they're BOTH as easily guilty and capable of this stunt for their own reasons which would benefit them. The talent of both sides has NOTHING to do with it, its what they meant to do here.

Also, I'm not going to assume things are peaches and cream between these musicians/singers just because they publically swear that they love the other and their work and people. Its just a cop-out that anyone can profess to.

Needless to say, its like this everywhere, in every facet of life. How many people don't get along but pretend to for publicity's sake or to restore/preserve an image? More than I care to count or imagine.

See, I dont see how u can believe this is a stunt. If you had ever been to a metal concert, esp ozzfest, you have a highly volitile crowd that has been outside in heat\sun as early as 7 in the morning. Pissing off a bunch of fans with this is dangerous concept to be deliberate.

Perhaps i am confusing which definition of stunt u mean, that its a PR ploy or just the whole thing that happened is a stunt. When i think of stunt i think preplanned\dilberate, which i cannot use saying Maiden knew this was comin.

Maiden had nothing to prove, their rep speaks for itself and talent does mean something. You look at when limp bizkit played the summer sanitarium tour, they came to chicago and the fans boo'd, threw stuff, constant anger to the band, fred durst got pissed off and just left, leaving a 45 min void of music. A band with talent and pride\dignity for the music wouldnt do that. A man of music knows the fans come first, esp when its their money they're playin with

I couldn't have possibly meant my use of the word "stunt" to be meant as a joke they both planned in advance (though there is a very unlikely chance that for reasons known only to them, that this was a personal joke that the audiance didn't get, follow or understand).

Rather, I used the word "stunt" as a means to show my disdain for what happened. One thing we can all agree on is that this was wrong. And thats why I used that word, because it was childish, rude, and humiliating what happened.

As far as pissing off a bunch of fans, thats just another feather in their cap, whomever did this. It creates momentum in the direction they have generated.

Finally, again, you are relying on your fandom of their talent to defend a side of them as people, not performers, you don't know. Its not about them having anything to prove, this isn't about talent, the act itself debases and undermines the value of the event. Its like I said in my last post. I'm not going to assume things are peaches and cream between this bunch just because, or that, because of talent alone, that magically absolves someone from being petty.

In fact, one could argue that the more influential and famous an entertainer(s) becomes the more concerned they are with keeping what they have and the more they're willing to do later down the line in order to insure their holdings, status, or station in the arena they star in.

Elvis Presley is a perfect example of that; when the Beatles came along and started to upstage him.

Up the Irons!

oh man, how the f did I miss this? So Sharon is a bitch. Well, this is just the proverbial icing on the cake of mockery and greed that she had made out of one of metals icons. First of all, she basically runs Ozzys life. Granted, he's not exactly good at it himself, but truthfully if he weren't pumped full of medication all the freakin time, he would actually be aware of what's going on. Did anyone get the Ozzy box set? Yeah, the last cd basically blew. What's even sadder, is that Ozzy's comments about it went something like this: "I don't remember doing this...i don't know who this band is...I don't know why I was asked to do this or where this idea came from..." It's all Sharon. She is solely responsible for transforming Ozzy from the prince of darkness to the buffoon of cable. And now...she..has..f*cked with Iron Maiden...THIS WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN.
Memo to Sharon Bitchborne: You and your pathetic tribe of dogs, children and lackies will NEVER be worthy enough to lick the bottom of Bruce Dickenson's boots. You are not even on the same plane of existance...stop pretending like you are. Your piece of crap talk show failed, you have destroyed your husband, and now you are not only trying to make a mockery of Ozzfest, but you are trying to upstage Iron Maiden (who I"m guessing have been selling a lot of tickets for you)...not gonna happen Sharon Bitchborne. The pathetic likes of you can't touch Bruce or Maiden. You're damn lucky that Bruce didn't shove his microphone up your...anyway... Here's an idea Sharon Bitchborne. Why don't you try to destroy some of the nu-metal groups you have on the Ozzfest tour. I bet you could really make THEM look bad. You know...you could have Kelly go back stage and unplug their amps midset...you could have Jack's cronies errrr friends pelt them with beer bottles or dog poop...whatever's lying around. Try and pick on bands that you might actually have a chance at bringing down...Sharon Bitchborne. The chances of you actually making Maiden look bad are about equal to the chance that Ozzy will get his head straight, divorce you, and make another good album...basically less then zero. Come on Sharon Bitchborne...use that tiny little evil brain of yours. Think.

Iron Maiden's gonna get ya!

Sharon is now going defensive tryin to justify the actions. Playing the political role of excuses and going like "Bruce brought out an english flag, which is a disgrace since we have men dying in iraq"

Yes, and iron maiden has only been a brittish band since their conception and the song "Trooper" is about the charge of the light brigade, a brittish unit slaughtered against russian troops.Doesnt matter if u hate the band or love them or disagree, u dont delib sabotage their music on their last venue on the tour, you cheat out 45,000+ fans, many of whom never seen Maiden in person.

Oh, for the love of God! What ever happened to the good old days(I'm thinking circa 1990) when rock stars and their spouses had disagreements with rival rockers? You know, they'd just beat the living CRAP out of eachother.

It's been fifteen years and I'm STILL waiting for that Vince Neil/Axl Rose scrap to happen.

The world would be a better place if they all packed heat. 😎
