Yeah.. but it was either pass the budget or shut down the government for a few weeks while the two sides fight it out....

(this happened before under Clinton. The opposing party and the president were in a similar situation and Clinton vowed not to back down. The Federal Government was shut down for a few weeks. Eventually the two sides made some kind of compromise but at what cost?)


BTW - the overwhelming majority of earmarks in the budget were put in by the opposing party.

That may be true. I still think that it's wasteful spending. These things need to come up in organized votes on their own merits, not snuck in with every bill. The U.S. is freaking broke and this crap is why. I hope that we all appreciate our federally funded bike trails when the damn government collapses. But hell we can just keep selling the Chinese our bonds until they come to collect. 😛issed
