Kinda shaky and shocked right now, so bear with me...

Deeply saddened by the loss of a true pioneer today,
He was known as Jam Master Jay.

He could rock your world with a silent voice,
A leader for us, a leader by choice.

His passing will remain, always, a sad day,
For the pain of losing a King can never really be taken away...

Rest in peace, my friend.

Run-DMC is one of my favorite rap/hip-hop groups. Its founding members brought that genre into the musical mainstream. Jam Master Jay died a tragic death. He will be greatly missed by many of us. 🙁

I think a fan in NY said it best:

"It's like losing one of The Beatles for us."

So true...

So Moses,

Was that guy one of the rappers in Run DMC???
I really have no knowledge when it comes to rap.
However, I did like Run DMC, I thought they were funny!

Either way, he'll be missed!

No, FT, Jam Master Jay was the DJ for Run-DMC. The other two members did all (or most of) the rapping. And the group did put out some funny songs, like "You Be Illin'," but they were more than that. Their work was groundbreaking. If it weren't for them, hip-hop might still be enjoyed by only African-Americans. 🙂

This is a perfect quote, thank you. I grew up in Brooklyn in the 70's and '80's, Run-DMC were our heroes along with LL Cool J and many others. My heart is broken over this, I feel so bad for his lovely wife and three babies...:sowrong:

I am deeply saddened by this senseless killing. Run DMC and Jam Master Jay are the biggest reason hip hop is as mainstream as it is today. People who don't know this group may think this is just another case of a violent rapper meeting a violent end. Those people would be sadly mistaken. Jay was a family man with a wife and three kids, and by all accounts a stand up guy. He was not involved in many of the activities that put a lot of other hip hop artists in jeopardy. I don't like hip hop nearly as much as I used to, mainly because there are not enough artists out there like Run DMC and Jam Master Jay. Jay came from an era when hip hop was mainly about having fun and showcasing the skills of mc's and dj's. That was an era that I remember very fondly. Jay's death feels like the death of someone I grew up with, an old friend. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

hmmm...

I thought more peeps would be posting on this thread...

Cheers. 😀
