Had a great time during my jiu jitsu class this past Tuesday!
Normally, in our group of around 20 the ratio of men to women is 5:1 — that day it was pretty even. So of course, each of us guys got paired up with a woman for sparring. Regardless of gender obviously no one’s going all out (or is supposed to be — there are some assholes), the main goal is just to practice technique and sequencing.
Anyways, I ended up having a charming girl we’ll call D as a partner. She’s great! Funny, kinda “one of the boys” but still feminine. D is pretty too but also a bit young (freshly 21 I think) so I’ll just leave it at that. After class a lot of us will go across the street for a drink or two so we all know each other well enough to be friendly.
That said, D and I are going at it. I’m moderately experienced in grappling so my main, self-imposed function in my gym is to allow the novices to get the better of me, give the experts someone to beat up, and hopefully learn something from both experiences. Somehow, D gets me off balance and onto my back. I start to talk her through how to get me into a North South before going for the submission via guillotine choke. She’s got one of my arms pinned up by my ear. I’m looking for purchase to flip over and reset (while I am a feminist, I will not tap out to a girl).
D has me in the right position to force submission but she’s not strong enough to close the deal. A point she voices frustration about: “Ugh just tap out already! My arms are getting tired” Her bicep is firmly barred across my windpipe but I’m sure that’s not all she’s got in the tank so I tease, “can’t be all you got D!” A mistake on my part. Much to my surprise, D used one of her hands to prod my ribcage. Usually not a particularly sensitive spot but not seeing it coming plus being immobile sent me into hysterics almost right way. Legs flailing, unable to suppress my snickering, I’m looking for a way out of this hold with more urgency. On second thought, my arm that’s pinned to my ear is very conveniently right next to her sides, which I pinch. A delightful stream of melodic giggling follows and I’m promptly released. “Oh my God! Don’t!” manages to get past her lips through residual laughter. I counter, “yeah well you started it,” as I helped D up by the hand. She playfully shoved me in response, we high-fived, and packed up for the day.
Can’t wait for next week!
