John Lennon

What is your favorite John Lennon song? Mine is Across the Universe, I love the lyrics and that voice is off the hook.

If anything, he was a good singer. Yes he was a jerk to his 1st wife and son (maybe jerk is too light [I mean he just up and left them]) and yes he wasn't the nicest person on the planet but DAMN COULD HE SING OR COULD HE SING! That's coming from a guy whose favorite beetles member is Ringo.

Also, my apologies Izzy if I made ya bring up some bad memories of your past. I'm sure your Mom is resting at peace and waiting to be reunited one day with you.

i just wanted you to know that i'm not sympathetic to those with mental illnesses...but i still don't consider it an excuse for cold blooded murder..sure i wouldn't call him an insect..Elton John did..but i will agree that, even the mentally ill do not always kill in cold blood..

Chris Prime..huggles.

Well, I certainly hope you don't go crazy one day then.

But i still don't consider it an excuse for cold blooded murder...

I never said it was an excuse. The man WAS WRONG to take Lenon's life but for us to not at least piety the man for being not right in the head means we're even worse than being insane.

Sure i wouldn't call him an insect...Elton John did.

Well, and here I thought Elton was a bit more enlightened than that.

I will agree that, even the mentally ill do not always kill in cold blood.

Again, your putting words into my mouth...words than I've never said in this topic. I NEVER SAID all mentally ill people kill. I just said we shouldn't focus on hating the man for doing what he did and instead pity him and hope one day he redeems himself (in this life or the next). We should also celebrate Lenon's life while not obfuscating the truth of how he lived his life.

Elton John wrote the music and Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics, I should have known but I looked it up anyway. They were probably very angry, bitter, sad and whatever other emotions you have when you lose a dear friend. An insect damaging grain is a metaphor to get the point across. John Lennon may not have been perfect but neither are any of us. I screw up all the time and probably will continue to do so.

Who knows how many more wonderful songs would have been written if John Lennon would still be around.

Damn, when I started a thread about John Lennon's assassination 5 years ago, most of the responses were along the lines of "I was still in diapers" or "I wasn't born yet". Talk about feeling ancient!

I've heard from someone on another site that Chapman's wife knew what her husband was up to but failed to speak up (out of fear of violence?).

A popular conspiracy theory says that the CIA or other such government agency succeeded via Chapman (an alleged undercover assassin) in silencing Lennon, where the FBI all but failed.

oops i meant i am sympathetic to the mentally ill...damn never post when you've had a few too many...sorry CrazyClown..my bad.

And that may have been all it was... a metaphor.
