New to the TMF... Not sure if this has ever been talked about before.. However I know a guy who produces movies.. Not a lot of big titles.. Most of them go straight to tape, a few however you might of heard of.. Anyway he tells me that more then 80 percent of the time whenever you see a female in a movie laughing really hard she is being tickled, most of the time on her feet.. He said it is VERY hard to do fake laughing, especially when it's a really loud hard laugh.. It's very noticable when it's fake.. So most of the time they either do something funny in the background but a lot of the time that doesn't work so they go for the oldest trick in the book which is tickling the bottom of there feet and it works almost always.. So if you see a star in a movie laughing and they are only showing her face/upperbody and it looks legit most likely her feet are getting the hell tickled out of them..

can you say specific examples in movies of this being the case?

I remember reading an article (I think it was in T.V. Guide but it might have been some other hollywood mag) that this was done to Brooke Sheilds in an episode of "Suddenly Susan" when they wanted to work her into a freinzy to do a child birth scene. Supposedly she has extreamly ticklish feet and crew men held her down and tickled her feet for an extended period seconds before the scene was shot !

There were also rumors about that being done to Candice Bergen in "Carnal Knowledge" during a scene where she is sitting at a table with Jack Nicholson and laughing hysterically. I saw that scene and I believe it !

I read where the crew also tickled Brooke's feet to produce an effect of erotica in the movie Endless Love. There was the tickling of Mia Sara's feet to get her laughing in Ferris Bueller even though the tickling appeared to be on the knees, Matthew Broderick in an interview said her feet were tickled. Winona Ryder had her feet tickled, accidently by Martin Scorcese in Bram Stoker's Dracula, again to help produce passionate response. In Variety Girl,1947 I believe it came out, the actress was doing voice over work for a cartoon and she was shown being tickled to get her to laugh in a scene. Natalie Portman, whose father is a doctor, said they tickle baby's feet to get them to cry, instead of smacking them on the bottom after their birth. They did this in the movie where she gave birth in a Walmart, I forget the name of the movie, Natalie had to tickle the baby's feet as she held it to produce crying, I know it sounds bad, she felt bad, but is it worse than smacking the child right after birth? I also read in a movie magazine that for voice over work in cartoons the actors are often tickled to get them to laugh at the right times. There are probably other examples, hope these were helpful, peace.......B.

Thanx all contributors

Yes, this is an excellent thread. I wonder how we can get more info / confirmation on this technique being used in Hollywood?

Great job for starting this off, Y.H.M.

Really nice to hear this! Now I will watch comedy movies with another point of view! 😀

while this subject has come up and natalie portman's name has been mentioned, in the film Leon, in the scene where she's at the table drinking champagne(?) and she starts laughing for a bit (seeing as u say laughter is hard to do, this must have been partic hard if it was purely acting), do u think she may have been bein tickled on under the table or summat? It's just that she even tries talkin while she's laughin and the laughter still seems to be more dominant. AND after she stops laughing, she sounds out of breath, as if she had been tickled, like the laughing was out of her control lol. Wot do you guys think? Thanks

The woman that was foot tickled in Variety Girl (1947) is Mary Hatcher. (Any relation to Teri?) Also, for all you Trekkers out there, DeForrest Kelley (Dr. 'Bones' McCoy) was also in that scene, but he just looked on.
Also, there was supposed to be a commentary by director Garry Marshall that Julia Roberts' feet were tickkled in' Pretty Woman' to get her to laugh while she's watching an 'I Love Lucy' episede on TV.

Now , this got me thinking . . . There were a few scenes in the TV show 'I Dream of Jeannie' where the love of my life Barbara Eden was laughing alot and you did NOT see her legs or feet on camera.. Is it possble? Can it be?
