Other than that, I'm not too good with giving tips, but I think it's mainly because there aren't really tips I can give to get quality results other than practice. But I'll try:
The first thing is to draw objects from life to get a good idea of how to do shading. Gesture drawings help with drawing human anatomy. Blind contour drawings help with hand-eye coordination. Once you get good at the basics, you should look at artists and incorporate elements of their styles into your own work to create your own style. As for coloring, I could tell you what I do on photoshop, but there are plenty of tutorials with people way better than I am, and could explain it better than I could, so I'd look into that.
