A new version is out and I've posted the installer for it. Here's how to download it correctly (HJ-Split is included in Part 2.zip)

1) Download both zip files and extract them to the same location on your computer

2) Open the HJ-Split file and click on Join

3) Click on Input File and browse to the location where you extracted the zip files

4) Open the .001 file and click Start to put the file together

Have fun (especially you Storm cat) lol.

By the way, if anybody wants to check out the forum for Kazaa Lite and all other file sharing programs, go to www.filesharingtalk.com and click on "community" near the top. The only annoying thing is that you have to register before you can view the forum in its entirety (they let you see some parts of it without registering though). It's worth it I'd say because you can get a lot of useful information and help if need be.

Can anyone tell us what the advantages are to upgrading? Im quite happy with what I have and if there are no major improvments I will hold off on upgrading. Thanks!

I would not try to upgrade to a free posted version since I am afraid there might be a security hole in the program that reports back to the RIAA or some other watchdog group. Paranoid, I might be but I do not wish to risk being a target for some virus or worm because of a security hole in a "newer" version of Kazaa Lite. I am happy with the version I bought last year for $20 after I downloaded from a secure site. I have the receipt to prove usage and ownership rights. If I were to get an upgrade, I would ask around and find a functional hacked version and download from a secure FTP. At least I could be fairly certain that the hacked version has any security holes plugged up. For music, I am still happy using WinMX. Yeah, it might take a long time waiting in que to dowload a song but at least I know it is a good recording. I have not come across any bad MP3 recordings off WinMX yet. Encountered too many bad recordings on Kazaa and Morpheus though.

Kazza is nothing more than a big spyware program. Not recomended by me at all.

Indeed Kazaa is a big spyware carrier. That is why Kazaa Lite K++ was released. It's a hacked version of the program. Essentially it's Kazaa without the spyware, ads, and with a few added tweaks (like the ability to jump to the front of the list for downloads).
I have always liked WinMX and really have been very happy with it. I can almost always find what I'm lookingfor there. Kazaa I prefer for programs and movies (or other large downloads) but it is harder on systen resources. Basically when Kazaa is running I can do NOTHING else. But my computer sucks.

Im not worried about the RIAA really. They only get people for UPLOADING cause it's impossible for them to see how much you have downloaded. I keep this in check by keeping my shared files to a small number. They're ony going after people offering like thousands of songs.
Also I may be wrong but if you use Kazaa Lite it MAY block people from browsing your files via your name. I know using it I can't browse other's files like I can with WinMX. Someone can clear this up maybe?

After reading some of these things, I thought maybe I could clear some things up. Like nessonite said, Kazaa Lite is a spyware and adware free version of KaZaA Media Desktop. It is the safest way to connect to the network that Kazaa uses (the FastTrack network). Also it doesn't report any of your information to the RIAA or anything like that. As a matter of fact, Kazaa Lite works to protect you from the RIAA and other anti-filesharing companies by using a built in tool that blocks known bad IP addresses from connecting to you. There is a very good tool that a lot of people use that protects you from anti-filesharing companies called "PeerGuardian" and you can get it here: www.methlabs.org. Also nessonite, you were correct in that Kazaa Lite does allow you to block other people from browsing all of your shared files (this is a very useful security feature). Also, to girls_tickle_me, anyone that charges you for a clean version of Kazaa is a scammer because Kazaa Lite is and always has been free. These people scam people by selling Kazaa Lite and tricking people into thinking that it's not free. Now has Kazaa Lite gone down in popularity over the past year? Yes it has. Other programs like Ares, WinMX, eMule, and so forth have grown in popularity because a lot of people are fed up with all the fake mp3 files on Kazaa. Nonetheless, I still like Kazaa Lite even though I will admit it has really decreased in popularity. Ares and WinMX are good file sharing programs as well. Kazaa Lite will always be one of my favourites because most of the stuff that I have collected overtime, I got from Kazaa Lite 🙂

Awesome. Now Im sorry to pester you again but is this a feature ou have to turn on or is this automatic? I havent seen this as an option anywhere.

Nessonite,

It sounds to me like you may be using an OLD version of Kazaa Lite. In answer to your question, in the more current versions of Kazaa Lite K++, the option to block people from viewing all of your shared files is enabled by default. You can find that option (in the current versions) by clicking on Options and choosing Kazaa Lite K++ Options. Then click on the K++ Options tab and under privacy you will see the option "Users can't get a list of all your shared files". That should be checkmarked. If there's anything else you want to know, feel free to ask 🙂

Could be. I think I downloaded it fromonof Kevin Rose's articles on TechTV.com. I will this newer version and see if maybe it doesnt bog my system down so much! 🙂 Thanks for all your help!

In Kazaa Lite, if you do not want people to see your shared files, simply move them out of the MY SHARED FOLDER and store them in another unshared folder. People interested in uploading your shared files will only see stuff stored in the My Shared Folder because that particular folder is share enabled by Windows security. It is the same principle for WinMX and the rest of the file sharing programs out there. Find the shared folder name and move your files elsewhere after they have been downloaded. I still like the idea of a paid receipt for Kazaa just in case. I consider the $20 a donation to the open source revolution in the file sharing world. I still will only get updates from referred sources, sites where I know others got a decent and function app. That is why I ask around in hacker chat rooms and BBS to find the most popular ones.

hmmm...I loaded this new version and the search page seems to be missing! It's greyed out...odd...I'll wrestle with it more later.
Personally I'd rather get a free program than pay for one. Even with a receipt there's no guarantee it'll function and not crash your system or something. Every program states it'snot responsible for damages it may cause.

I wish Kazaa Lite was decent at maintaining a good bandwidth when downloading large movie files (avi, divx, mpg, etc.).

I'll wait to hear more about that "grey area" from ya. I just today installed the .2 version that was posted earlier.

A new prob though, the Super-Duper Premium Sound System (and btw, it DOES kick ass) in the new/used ('95) Volvo won't recognise MP3 discs, so that kinda blows...!!

Anon...I finally got what you meant by addressing me in your post... 😀

Hey Nessonite,

If you're still having the problem that you mentioned before about the Search tab being grayed out (that happens when you're not connected to the network), I think I know what's wrong.

I'll keep this short........People on Kazaa connect to things called supernodes and this supernode information is stored on your computer in your Windows Registry. The thing is, your supernode information may be out of date and obsolete (which makes you unable to connect to the network).

The file I have attached at the bottom should help you. In that zip file is a file called "Supernodes.reg". That file has a huge list of current and reliable supernodes that you can connect to.

After you extract the zip file, right click on the Supernodes.reg file and choose Merge. Then you should be able to connect to Kazaa Lite with no troubles (nothing else on your computer is affected so don't worry).

This is GREAT....just downloaded the new Megadeth CD in it's entirety...and it's release date is Sept 14th...!!

How's that for jumping the gun...??

? about 'Ares'

I downloaded and installed that Ares program Anonymous mentioned. After I started it up, my Norton put a message on my screen that an NHU updater was attempting to access the Internet. Not knowing what it was, I blocked it. I then ran a virus scan and came up free, then I ran SpyBot. It showed that there were 3 items, one being something called NavExcel. I told SpyBot to fix the selected problems, but it said that it couldn't fix the NavExcel because a program was using it.

My ? is...is this part of the Ares program, or some spyware that Ares installed?
