Some time ago I was talking with Khali about the poser tickling pics she used to create years ago, and of which I still had quite a collection on my old hard drive. Khali thought them to be outdated, mainly because the poser version she used in the days was not as advanced nor realistic like the current version.
I disagreed. I've experimented with 3D before, and I would do most of the detailing and effects in post-render. To prove my point, I did a quick reworking of one of my all time favourites in photoshop, just adding some textures and highlights, and running some filters on it.

Khali gave me the permission to share it with you all, so here you go. 🙂 I've included the original for comparison and to show what's really possible in post-render. 🙂

Excellent stuff, I would love to learn how to do that one day.

it's remarkable what you can do with a drawing tablet and some knowledge of color and shadow, great work on that one, khali just needs some more confidence in her work 🙂

Haribish!: Thank you 🙂

EcEu: The drawing tablet has indeed been a whole revelation to me, even for touching up old (or new) 3D work.
And yes, I too believe Khali is a very talented artist. She just needs the confidence. 🙂

HDS too has a large collection of Khali's old work. Collecting it for years I have been, yes indeed. The rework you've done is fantastic! The way you've enhanced the existing lighting and shadows is exceptional; the strands of hair falling down Kelyn's face are but one example of this enhancement. The texture added to both of them, skin and clothes, really adds a different kind of life to it. Excellent reworking of a classic Khali piece, scavenger!

Scav,

Khali is a gifted CGI artist and your render is a fine tribute to her work.

HDS: Thanks! I tried to stay as close to Khali's original vision, though. I just used the existing lighting and details in the pic (like the orange glow of the setting sun), but enhanced it to bring them out more. 🙂

Jim: Thank you, my friend! 🙂

I enjoyed seeing Khali's art, both traditional and CG . As others have said, your renewal of this piece is a great tribute to her work! Excellent job, scavenger 🙂

Indeed, Khali is truly a talented CGI artist. She's the reason I got into CGI myself, as well as drawing. 😉

Scav, this is a great job, my friend. You're 100% correct in your statement about post-render work. I actually do the majority of my own work post-render.

I fondly remember Khali and I tossing images back and forth at each other when we both got started here. Ah, the good old days, huh? :triangle:

Fantastic job on the original and wonderful work on the reimagining.

Yes, I remember you having said that a while back. However advanced a render engine is, it'll never be perfect. So there's always some degree of post-render tweaking needed. 🙂 I mainly see a 3D rendered image as a starting point, like a roughly colored illustration that needs to be fine-tuned. 🙂

once again this is an awesome example of what you can do with some manual lightning adjustments. Even from a render it has a very painted quality to it but also feels very solid and graphic because of its start as a render. I'm really loving what you did with the skin, the different planes of shading from the darker parts under their arms and between their legs, to the parts that a brightly reflecting the bottom left light source, you really got your sense of lighting down on this piece! that extra texture you added to the stone is just plain awesome, i'm going to spend several nights trying to figure out how you did that. Great upgrade from a great foundation render 🙂
