Keys to a franchise

Who do you think hired Sparano and all the coaches?

And help scout for the draft?

And picked out select personnel like Fasano?

Parcells is running the show.

He does, in fact, have the 'keys to a franchise'.

im not sure hes doing as much as people think he is .. he may offer input but remeber the gm is doing his job and the coaches theirs.. although i could be wrong i just dont think hes doing that much and is taking the credit from those who deserve it

That's true that he does seem to get the most of the praise.

I think it's just because:

1. He's done it before
2. He's a big name
3. It's easier to say 'Parcells did it' instead of Coach Sparano, Offensive Line coach so and so, Special Teams coach so and so.

I'm not trying to say Parcells is the GOAT or anything, but in this day and age of the NFL, I'd want him to have the keys to my franchise.

Besides, he's far better than Al Davis/Jerry Jones/Dan Snyder. Yikes. 😀

LOL thats for sure

I am a Jets fan. But if I had to pick a team as is RIGHT now, I would pick the Detroit Lions. Now that I have probably made all of you fall off your seats, here is why.

I have a team that has a star wide receiver. I have a good running back. I have the number 1 pick in the draft and I have 10 picks in the draft overall. I can turn my team over almost 20% just in this draft alone. I have GREAT value in that number 1 pick. I could keep it or trade down for maybe two to four draft picks. I can build my foundation within the draft and have a young team at the same time.

While I am probably not Parcells I know I can do better than Matt Millen. Let's be fair, the Lions kept Millen for eight years and we all know he DIDN'T have a brain. So if you have a half a brain then you should almost gaureentee yourself a lifetime job because the Ford family will leave you alone.

Within three years the Lions would be a powerhouse in the NFC just based on GOOD draft picks and they would be a young team that would grow together as a unit.

Now I know that all of you will think it is stupid but the fact that almost all of you ran to your own teams as homers to run, give me credit for not taking my beloved Jets and giving myself a challenge. A challenge which quite frankly is pretty easy when you consider all the draft picks that they have. All they need is a brain.

but success in the nfl is measured by superbowl wins.. and parcells hasnt won one in 15 years.. all i was saying is everything he touches doesnt turn to gold.. he is alright but not the god he is hailed as.. give me ozzie newsome or scott pioli over parcells any day

Success isn't always measured by Super Bowl wins. Parcells has turned teams that were floundering into competitve watchable teams. As Fiend so elequently pointed out, he has made the difference in helping a lot of teams. Just because you don't win a Super Bowl doesn't mean you have failed. It takes a lot of knowhow to turn bad teams into good teams. Parcells has that knowhow.

only problem with that is just because you take someone in the 1st round doesnt mean they will be good or even decent.. not to mention the lions have holes in all positions on defense and need an o line and a tight end and a quarterback.. the likely hood of doing all that and getting it to work in just three years as you said isnt very likely

Miami had 1 win a year ago without a QB heading into preseason. They are now playoff bound. Atlanta won only 4 games a year ago and they had no QB or a go to RB. Now they are in the playoffs. You see it all the time. Teams have NOTHING one year and make something happpen the following year or two. The league is set up for that. That is why teams are NEVER out of it from one year to the next. Let's be fair about this, the Lions won seven games only a year ago. So they weren't as bad as zero wins would indicate. Get a decent GM in there and they have a chance.

I also never said you taking someone in the first round gaureenteed anything. If you look, I stated it had value to either keep it or trade down for MORE picks. I only stated it value. I never thought anything else.

Of the coaching vacancies that are currently open, I'd take the Denver Broncos. The offense is pretty much set, but MAN that defense needs some help. I'd spend all but a couple of draft picks on defense this year. This is an organization that has had some success. They were in the AFC Championship Game just 3 years ago, and have been lingering around .500 ever since. I think it could be turned around pretty quickly.

well they were there but i wouldnt say they were in the game ..LOL

I'd love to have the keys to the Bears franchise.

Were it not for a few last second losses early in the season we would have locked up the NFC North by week 14, they're the only balanced team in the division. The pack can't stop anyone on defense, the vikings have a sub par offense and poor pass defense, and the lions....ya. The Bears QB situation was solved with Orton's development, he won't ever put up Peyton Manning type numbers, but he is a proven winner and a good solid football player. They have a franchise running back in Matt Forte, and a great TE in Greg Olson. The defense needs work, but frankly I believe that change needs to come from up top not on the field, I would recruit Rod Marinalli for my D-coord position and start looking for a new O-coord since Ron Turner won't call plays to fit his player's strengths.

The one piece of the puzzle the Bear are really missing is a #1 receiver, a tough player who will fight hard for YAC and has a team first attitude. That's why I would do everything in my power to get Anquan Boldin from the Cardinals. Boldin wants out of Zona and he is one of the toughest players I've ever seen play WR.

Trade Vasher away for a Guard and draft another tackle in the draft and we've turned one of the oldest O-lines in the NFL into one of the youngest.

Overall with a few key moves the Bears could go far into the playoffs next season.
