Kid friendly hobbies...

I've just put in a slot car track for my little one since it seems like something we could enjoy together. Figured I'd see if there were any enthusiasts among us specializing in this hobby to chat with before I start expanding and getting more equipment. Basically I purchased a #3 Scaletrix sport track starter set and an expansion track set to upgrade it a #4 circuit length. I have each track on it's own transformer (learned that a loooong time ago with the HO cars...lol) and (2) 4 X 8 by 3/4" finished boards on top of 6' tables. Given the size/width of the track and 1/32 cars this isn't going to be sufficient for long. I'd eventually like a 10-12' straightaway and a 4 lane setup.....any advice/comments or perspective?

Great way to go, Q! I always loved slot cars...but I was always much more of a diecast enthusiast. I remember when I was little, slots were the rage...and Aurora's AFX line featured all the great '60s cars, all interchangeable with a single chassis. The fun I used to have at my friend's house, racing all day.
You need much more room than that for 1/32, more room than you even know. Good luck...I envy you 🙂

Room indeed...

Just finished rearranging (code for cleaning and decluttering) the basement today for that very reason. I can already see adding 2 more boards minimum. I used to have a massive HO setup about 35 years ago and still think a lap should take nearly a minute on a track, but I think I'd need another 8 boards given the size of the cars and their speed and ability to "stick" due to the magnets. Guess I'll meander along for awhile and try to add gradually. Thanks for the input, btw...
