It gives me great pleasure to write this post. Why? Because even the most intense Kobe haters HAVE to give Kobe Bryant a lot of props for an outstanding season. Kobe Bryant without a doubt SHOULD BE MVP. His Laker team finished first in a conference where to just QUALIFY for playoffs, your team HAD to win 50 games. That's crazy. 50 games? Yet, the Lakers are first.
The thing with Kobe this season was the simple fact that he didn't have to score 40-50 points for the Lakers to win. There were times where he "only" scored 20 points, wasn't the leading scorer and the Lakers STILL won by double digit points. He made his teammates better. Think about it. Laker fans aren't worried when guys like Vladimir Radmonivic, Sasha Vujacic and Jordan Farmar enter the game in crunch time. Kobe Bryant got guys open, PASSED the ball and they hit their shots. Kobe has his team believing, which was crazy considering he blasted them in the offseason. These guys stepped up to the plate and Kobe realized that he was on a solid team. He trusts his teammates now. His play has shown that this year and despite the rash of injuries, the Lakers still came in 1st in the West.
Guys like Lebron James, Kevin Garnett and Chris Paul also deserve accolades, but none of them had the year Kobe had. If Kobe doesn't win this year, then there truly is a anti-Kobe bias. Give the man his props because THIS season, Kobe was truly MVP.
