Some fans gathered at Staples Center attempted to set a bonfire, but police moved in and extinguished it. LAPD Deputy Chief Sergio Diaz confirmed that an M-80 was set off but not directed at officers. Part of the crowd appears to be on the move toward Staples Center.

Members of a crowd celebrating the Lakers' NBA championship damaged at least one police cruiser and were setting bonfires in the street Sunday night, according to police.

LAPD officers declared the increasingly rowdy crowd gathered near the Staples Center an unlawful assembly.

Officer Karen Rayner said one or two police cruisers were damaged and reinforcement officers were called in from throughout the city to help disperse the crowd.

Aerial video footage shown on KCAL-TV showed people jumping on a police car, rocking vehicles attempting to pass through the crowd and throwing flares set up by police. No injuries were reported.

When you win a championship, your fans should celebrate as they deserve to do so. When it comes to towns like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Detroit, why does World War III break out all of a sudden after a championship is won? Victory is greeted with punks that are bent on destroying 100 police cars.

Lakers get out of the tougher West by defeating the defending champs Spurs in 5 games in the West Conf. Finals to make it to the NBA Finals. There, they push the Celtics (who have home court) to game 6 and lose in Boston.

Kobe wins a gold medal for USA in the summer with a team that has no Celtics players on it by defeating Spain, which has his Laker teammate Pau Gasol.



2009 - No Garnet cus of injury. Celtics lose in the 2nd round in the weaker East. Even though they have home court they lose game 7 in Boston to the Magic.

The Magic go on to lose to the Lakers in 5 games in the NBA Finals. The Magic again do not have home court, and they only win one game in Orlando.

I was really gunning for orlando this year, but even i can admit that the best team won overall. kobe was annoying, i mean, outstanding throughout the whole series 😛 and the lakers wer dominant. at least orlando managed to get their first ever finals win before it was all over. go superman!! 😀

Congratulations to Phil and the Lakers. The man is amazing. Ten titles, and now four with Kobe. Kobe finally wins one without that other guy (Ahem, Shaq).

I watched much of the Finals. Not every minute of every game, but I did watch all of it last night, and much of the other games. What I saw was a basically controlled, experienced effort by Kobe and the Lakers, and wild, ofen inconsistent play by Orlando. Howard is a great player, but besides that, the Magic looked in disarray much of the time.

I have to wonder what the outcome would have been if it had been Kobe vs Lebron. From what I saw of Lebron in the earlier rounds until the Orlando series, I'm not saying L.A. might not have won, but I think it would have been a longer series.

Hopefully Phil will be back next year. He has one more year on his contract. If Phil comes back, and they keep the right guys, there is no reason why L.A. can't win it all again next year.

well spoken... don`t think he gets there are actually other Laker fans besides himself ; I am a MAVS fan so didn`t pull for them or against them , just wanted a good series.

It was cute when they ripped Kobe Bryant about his rape accusation, his so called "get rid of Shaq and Phil", and his desire to be traded 2 years ago. All these people hopped on the anti Kobe/anti Laker threads and I was the only one defending Kobe and the Lakers. I even had a poster say I advocated rape because I defended Kobe Bryant. No one said nothing of the continuous ripping of Kobe over the years. Now, it is my turn.

Go back. Find the threads of 4-5 years ago. Go back, do a name search with "Kobe Bryant" and you tell me how mean people got towards Kobe Bryant. All I did was defend a player for a franchise I love and I was ridiculed. I was told, by several of you (you know who you are) that the Lakers and Kobe will never win again because he is a selfish, arrogant man. I had posters constantly telling me that he can't win without Shaq and that Shaq was THE reason why the Lakers won. Now, it is my turn.

That is why the "Kiss my ass" parts came out. Look at the time of that post. It was right after the game was over and you are looking at pure emotion. To all you detractors of Kobe and the Lakers, that is my true emotion towards all the hate, all the venom YOU spewed over the years. Oh yeah, payback is....well, you know. So don't give me this "why is Primetime acting like this?" crap. This was 5 years in the making. I never forget things. So don't start denying crap. I invite everyone reading this to go back and find those threads. Maybe then you can understand the emotion I felt when I wrote that original post.

Now, as for the NBA. The Lakers are once again Kings of the NBA. If they make the right moves, they can start another long title runs. Phil Jackson proved why he is the best coach there is. Kobe Bryant showed WHY he is the best player in the NBA. Sorry Lebron, until you get a ring, you are #2 in the NBA. Next year will be tough because the Magic will be a lot better. Boston will be strong. Clevelandwill be good. The Bulls as well. And don't get me started on the West. Defending the title will be very tough. But...OH HOW SWEET IT IS this year....

Kobe is THE REASON Shaq was traded. Who knows many championships the Lakers would have won if Bryant`s tantrums hadn`t blown up that team . Even Kobe`s present coach wrote in his book how out of control he was and called him a prima donna. Kobe is THE SAME guy that less than two years ago wanted to be traded. There isnt a team around that could beat the phillies,steelers,lakers, or penguins and its a fact. They are the best athletes in the world playing in the best most competetive leagues in the world, hence the world champions... i mean even look at the "worlds" sport soccer (which we americans dont give two shits about" we even compete in the world cup in that, the same couldnt be said for other countries if we were to have a american football (our sport) cup no one would touch us

Even Jackson was very wary of coming back to coach the spoiled brat. a deal was in place for Kobe to come to the Mavs for Josh Howard before the Lakers got Gasol , the Mavs turned it down because Howard is younger and Mark Cuban ; of all people, didn`t want to deal with all of Kobe`s issues.

I dont wanna start any crazy antics with this post, because i can see its all in good fun, but to offer another country's perspective on things: we find it majorly hilarious that the americans call their teams the "WORLD champs" when they are the only country that compete in the sport. Surely logic can show u that its wrong to do that lol. Its not so much with the NBA, the USA win gold at the olympics almost every time they compete and that cleary shows they are in fact world champs. Its the NFL that gets my goat! You as a nation call it AMERICAN football. Only AMERICAN teams play it. How can u be world champs if u dont share ur game with the world and compete against other nations??? I know u'll all tell me that there are a thousand international players that help make up the league, but thats not the point.
