That's right folks, another Laker post. Why? Because they're the champs, so I have to brag. Anyway, all these teams tried to stack their teams (Shaq in Cleveland, Vince Carter in Orlando, Rasheed Wallace in Boston) to counter the Lakers, but the Lakers did what they needed to do to stay on top.

First, Ron Artest. This is a HUGE move. Artest will bring the "toughness" critics say the Lakers lack. Plus, Artest WANTS to be a Laker. I doubt he is going to screw around. Phil and Kobe won't let him. He's a great defender and will be able to play physical defense against the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James and Paul Pierce.

Second, resigning Lamar Odom is huge because he is the best 6th man in the league. Ginobli used to have that title, but no longer. The Lakers now have nightmare matchups for people. No other team can matchup to the Lakers.

Yep, looks like another parade may be coming to downtown LA next June....

there is no doubt that Lakers are the favorite for next year. But there are some teams out there that could certainly win it next year. Boston definately could win it next year with the HUGE addition of Wallace and a healthy Garnett. Don`t count out Orlando either. Losing Hedo was a blow and Carter isn`t the same player he once was but he can still score 30 on any given day and he doesn`t have to carry this team. Plus Brandon Bass was a HUGE addition to this team. Orlando with Bass and Howard will dominate the boards on a nightly basis. Plus they made another move under the radar that was really key in getting Matt Barnes. He is a big-time shutdown defender in his own right

San Antonio will make a run this year too.

I really like Odom alot, but the best 6th man in basketball by far is Jason Terry

As much as I hate to admit it, it will be the Lakers title to lose for the next couple of years. Would love to see Lebron and the crew put it together and give them some competition. As of right now, Lebron is great, but Kobe is better.

The Celtics are going to be a beast and now so is Orlando. They have addressed their lack of a power forward with Bass, so they will be a huge problem to deal with. But, they have to deal with Boston and maybe Cleveland with Shaq.

But the Lakers solidified their team by re-signing Odom and getting Artest. I am telling all of you this. If the Lakers stay healthy AND Bynum plays to his potential, there isn't a team in the league that can beat the Lakers in the playoffs. It won't be easy, but NOT ONE team can matchup with a very good Bynum and Gasol in the frontcourt. Then you got Artest and Odom off the bench. Fisher/Farmar/Brown are good point guards. Then of course you have....

The Celtics and all the other so called elite teams are just around to make our title run that much more impressive.

Lakers are the favorites but again will face stiff competition. Bynum right now is all potential , you know how many of those guys played in the NBA for a couple of years and then were out of the league and never played again.
My point is he is actually going to have to do something before you can expect something from him.

If the Celtics stay healthy I don`t believe there is a team around that wants to face them in the playoffs or Finals.

Watch out for Portland this year...54 wins last year and that was without a healthy Oden. Lakers can't win in Portland...

peace out,
daddy

good one but I forgot to laugh. Portland is not even a blip on the laker;s radar

They split the series with the Lakers last year, including a laugher which had Portland up 81-51 entering the third quarter. Oh yes, they are on the radar!!!!

Honestly, Portland is the only Western Conference team that scares me. They have good young talent. But adding Ron Artest is HUGE. You saw how he made a difference in the first round Houston vs Portland matchup. Portland will be tough, but if the Lakers don't underestimate them and treat them as a serious threat, Portland loses...

The Celtics will probably make the finals against the Lakers. BUT, not even they can handle this Lakers team. To me, if Bynum plays anywhere near his potential, it is a wrap. Boston would then have no one to guard him. Perkins? Not quite. If Garnett guards him, Gasol eats Perkins alive. Artest is going to take out Pierce. What's Rondo or Allen going to do? Even if Rasheed gets on thye floor, we counter with Odom.

You're probably saying "But primetime, how can the Lakers have the edge when both teams match up well?". Simple. The Lakers are YOUNGER. Boston's key guys are OLD. Plus, we owe Boston an ass whooping for humiliating us in game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals.

But then again, watch out for Orlando...

Hey Prime....

You will start to have trouble sleeping...you will be tossing and turning back and forth, and in your brain will keep flashing:

Portland fan, Greg Oden hasn't even shown flashes of brillance in his small stint in the NBA. Even if he does improve, he's still slow and all he'll do is slow the team down with his low post presence. I think they're better without him.

As a Lakers fan, I was kind of perturbed when they let Ariza go, but when we got Artest, that put my mind at ease a bit. Ariza saved 3 games for the Lakers in the playoffs this past season with his defense, still, we've gotten better on the stat sheet. We'll see if that translates into W's on the floor.

Cleveland didn't do themselves any favors by getting Shaq. He's a year older and now they have two big guys that can't move laterally. In addition, they didn't address the issue that kept them out of the NBA finals: getting bigger on the perimeter. Those mini-me guards will still have a hard time guarding anyone over 6'5".

Why should you be bothered by Portland? Because we split a regular season series with them last year? What? They are young and dumb. Say didn't we also have a loosing record against Orlando last year too? I wonder what happened there. Come on Prime how are you worried about Portland of all teams? Spurs and Mavs are more of a threat. Even Utah.

Portland...come on.
