WARNING!!! DO NOT READ THIS THREAD IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE LATEST GEORGE ROMERO INSTALLMENT OF THE "DEAD" SERIES!
Alright, so I took the lady friend over to the theatre and we watched Land of the Dead.
I have to say, I was GREATLY dissapointed. As a zombie fan, I did NOT like to way Romero handled the idea of zombies evolving.
In fact, it's the opposite way around. Zombies, according to theory, would decompose over time, tot he point of being no more than puddles of mush after so many weeks.
The movies by Romero is opposite this. It shows how zombies would, if given the time, learn how to try to be human again, learn to act a group with a collective mind and goal, learn to adapt.
Zombies (again, according to theory) would not possibly be able to do such things. The virus that infects the body destroys the human brain to the point of leaving nothing more than the stem, thus enabling the "carrier" to act solely on instinct. The main instinct of all living beings is to find food, herego, zombies' only motivation to move or act is to find food.
In the movie, the zombies kill. Yes, they do eat sometimes, but they kill for the sake of killing in many scenes.
Here's my breakdown.
Creativity: 8. Romero's ideas and inspirations are very original and in many cases funny.
Acting: 9. Very good casting. Voice tone and inflection was very well done.
Special effects: 10. Amazing gore and blood, and very wonderfully nasty. I love the belly button ring being ripped out, yummy.
Sound effects and soundtrack: 9. The music went well with the theme.
Realism (if you wanna call it that): 2. Awfully written and terrible plot. Goes against decades of zombie theory.
