Art Linkletter was on Larry King Live July 26, 2002. He's 90 years old and was talking about living longer.

KING: Do you -- one of the things you've always talked about, which Norman Cousins used to talk about, is laughter.

LINKLETTER: Yes.

KING: Laughter brings -- good things happen in your body when you laugh.

LINKLETTER: Yes, and they start up here in the brain. They're called endorphins. And the endorphins are manufactured by your brain, and they're like a morphine or cocaine...

KING: They're air high.

LINKLETTER: They're a high, and 100 times more powerful than cocaine. But very, very tiny amounts. They are the things that are manufactured naturally when you see your daughter walking down the aisle to get married to somebody you like, or when an old friend comes and visits you and you hug each other.

It's that feeling of goosebumps up and down you that comes from feeling -- it's from laughter. When you have a good laugh, you manufacture endorphins, and they make you feel good.

There's another old fellow in my city that also says laughing is good for living longer. Now I'm not sure if that also reffers to tickling, but laughter IS laughter, right?

The Scientific Truth

Laughter and tickling are very good for your health. The consensual kind will work wonders in a man/woman relationship; keeping both in much better health. Used before meals, it can aid in weightloss. Used during afternoons and evenings, it can facilitate smoking cessation.

In a recent study of 176 couples in which only one partner smoked, regular and scheduled tickling significantly increased the efficacy of any smoking cessation program which the smoking partner was attempting. The tickling couples had success rates 3.21X higher than the non-tickling couples.

Cardiovascular health has also shown positive correlations with regularly scheduled tickling. When combined with regular exercise, regular tickling has been shown to reduce HDL Cholesterol by an average of 67.3 percent over non-tickling couples. Doctors have taken patients completely off Cholesterol medication after the couples began regularly scheduled tickling sessions in their homes.

Frequent, Regular and Scheduled tickling should be a part of every couple's lifestyle.

Oldie but goodie!

It's a thread I posted a while back, called "Being tickled is good for you." Might want to check it out.
