Liddell vs. Jardine tonight

true indeed

but i think because A)Silva has seen Shogun/CC lose for whatever reason B)he`s lost his last 2 fights and C)he`s had plenty of time off to recover and refocus he will come in stronger than ever.i suppose what i really mean is that he will be back to his old self and he will not think that he can just show up and win based on rep alone.dedicated Wandy = danger.also, even if he does lose it won`t be because he was unprepared in any way.

i think i`m rambling now....gotta put down my Wandy pictures 😀😉

Cro Cop and Shogun were foolish.CC said(after Gonzaga nearly killed him) that he was not training in a cage or with elbows.Shogun said he didn`t watch any Forrest footage and looked like he didn`t train much....not to take anything away from Griffin.

This all is true, but, 1) people said since Liddel got KO'd he would take the fight game more serious and he might have but still got beat, which leads to number 2) he won't be fighting young guys who are just starting, he's fighting big names who are dangerous too, any 200 lb. man with little gloves can knock you out, but Jardine or Griffin are more likely than most.

You may be right, but to say he'll maul someone, eh, Gonzaga knew the octagon and elbows but was fighting a dangerous man, and lost by TKO to Couture.

In MMA, reputations mean nothing.

I was talking to the owner of my gym one day and he brought up a very good point about Chuck Liddell.I never really realised it until then but Chuck never fought any talented strikers in the ufc.Almost all of his wins were against great grapplers, which would explain his excellent takedown defense. He adapted to fighting great grapplers with average or less striking abilities which also allowed him to use that open, loose style he has. That is how I see it at least. Now we are seeing him fight average to above average strikers and he appears to have no answer.I am definately a Liddell fan,I would love to see him fight Wandy but I think he would get annihilated.

Good point. But Wandy's last two fights were against strikers, and he got beat.

i think thats kinda what i meant.....

I don`t think Silva is gonna rely on his rep like it appeared Shogun and Cro Cop did.

and Dan is more a wrestler than anything....granted,he does throw bombs 😉

This isnt UFC related but it does apply to mma.Have any of you guys heard about the Tank/Kimbo fight? Its basically two old street fighters in a cage.It should be entertaining to watch. Its to take place on Oct 12,which also happens to be my birthday,so it should be interesting. The way they are talking, UFC 79 is going to be a monster. :rotate:

Its a sad day in the mma world.Fedor has officially signed with M-1. :sowrong:

Couture retired. He said a fight with Fedor was what he wanted, and other than that, there was nothing left for him to prove.

What a disappointment. That fight was so close to happening you could almost touch it.Damn.I am a diehard Mirko fan so I would love to see a comeback from him even though it is a longshot at this point.I see Minotauro being the next one with the belt.Thats my thought at this point. It should be interesting to see how it pans out. What do you guys see happening and who would like to see with the belt? 😕

Those with a shot at the HW belt at this point:

Minotauro Norgeira - Strong submissions, good overall
Mirko Crocop - I still believe he can get his act together
Gabriel Gonzaga - Still very dangerous
Tim Sylvia - As much as I hate to admit it, he's still 6'8"

but my pick? The one who I think is going to take the belt and hold it for a while?

Brandon "The Truth" Vera - He's a great KO fighter. He's stopped everyone he's come across. He's got a great submission game. But most importantly, he's young. He's championship material and unlike every other major HW in the world right now, he's before his peak. Everyone else is either there or over it. If he gets by Sylvia this Saturday, he'll be on his way to a belt.

I would have to agree with you Snail Shell. He's nasty. Most definately that fight Saturday will have a major impact on the future of the division.Vera has been away for a while so there is that question mark.If he has been steadily training and improving he will be a force to be reckoned with.Lets hope for a good night of fights Saturday.

Gonzaga, if he improves his conditioning.

I want to see Gonzaga fight Nogueira. That would make for an intersting match up.I honestly thought Nogueira got ko'd by Herring in his debut.I was shocked that the ref didnt stop that fight. He said in an interview that was the hardest he had ever been hit. That would be the battle of the big Brazilians.

Gonzaga's a big boy and a force to be sure. He's definately got a shot. As for Norgeira, he's got to show he wants it. Herring practically gave him the fight by not jumping on him. Norgeira's got a shot, but he's not there yet.

If Gonzaga gets down to like 240lbs he'd be much better off. He's carrying 10-15lbs just for the sake of being bigger. He'll do better as a slimmer fighter.

that belt should be around Nog`s waist very soon.

fuckin stupid Fedor...i hope he enjoys his life of fighting infinitely less talented oppenents for an org no one will watch :Grrr:

I think Fedor may want to live as an un-beaten legend, so he's acting like a bitch. I think in a ring, Fedor would beat Couture, in the cage, Couture would have handed Fedor his own ass.
