it isn't his yet. By contract, and also at the behest of a few Warner Execs who don't want Welling in the role, Singer has to do casting calls and test(See story here). But singer wants Welling. Here is a few manips of welling and the other actors that are testing that I think would make great Superman. Here is Welling in the costume:

And I had no idea of how similar he really looks to Reeve.

Now onto the maniped posters:

welling makes the perfect supes. just needs to lift a little more.

Is this the guy from the Smallville series? Doesn't he already play a young Superman? Wouldn't he possibly have a conflict of interest? He looks just as good as the other candidates, if you ask me.

A new Superman movie?

Oh please God no, is nothing sacred?

hey now, Superman is the greatest hero of all time!! I don't care what anyone says....he IS stronger than hulk. 😀 😀 😉

Jim, you must understand that this is an important issue among Americans. This process takes extreme care and must be done with great thought. This is very important to us here in the US.

You British are no fun!!!😀 😉 😛

Jim,

The movie is being produced by Richard Donner, who directed the first Chris Reeve movie, and also directed the first Superman 2, before it was taken away and 90 percent reshot. It is also directed by Brian Singer, who directed both X-Men movies. The script is being written by the guys who wrote X-Men 2. The movie is going to be a continuation of the Donner/Chris Reeve movies. Since Reeve wont be in it, I am not sure how they are doing it. But with the talent they have, including Donner producing, this is going to be kick ass.

The Salkind brothers were a pair of vindictive wankers. The biggest and most stupid mistake they ever made was picking Richard Lester to be director. The only thing he did right was change the scene where Lois establishes that Clarke is Superman. (In my opinion Donner's version was the weaker.) But the rest of the changes to 2 weren't good, and 3 and especially 4 were steaming, stinking piles of earwig excrement! 😡

I am very happy to hear that Dick Donner is going to a producer of this one. I would ideally prefer him to direct as well, but anyone picked by him to do the job instead, must be pretty good. So this is, in effect, Superman 5, eh? I'm happy to hear that also. It has to be said though, that considering the last film was made 19 or 20 years ago, new actors would be needed anyway. Reeve and Margot Kidder are both in their 50's now and couldn't reprise their roles with any "verisimilitude". (One of Dick Donner's favourite words. lol)

However good or bad a job it is, it couldn't possibly be as bad as the one made by Dean Caine and Terri Hatcher. That was truly God-awful! Cain had two stances as Superman: Standing with arms folded and waving arms eratically while flying. Ugh! :disgust:

I hope they will go for appearance and story, rather than getting wallowed up with a love of CG effects. In my opinion the effects on older films like the original Superman, The Omen, The Exorcist and so on, are more convincing and pleasing on the eye, even today, than all this garbage George Lucas has recently become obsessed with. Can anyone seriously say they preferred the CG Yoda in AOTC to the puppet one in TPM?

Oh we're fun, and I am especially. 😀 I'm also a lover of the original Superman films(Well, the first two, anyway). It's just in experience an attempt to remake something almost always manages to drastically crapola the whole thing. However in light of Buggs recent info, I'll hold fire with some hope.

Singer said that is it a continuation of the Reeve films, but we don't know if it is later or in between them. Obviously they wont have Reeve or any of the original cast in it. They might have Hackman in it though. Singers words on his movie are something like:

"I want my movie to be very realistic. Part of it will be how the world would react if one day a super being wearing a blue suit and red cape and boots showed up one day. How would the world react?"

And his favorite move is Superman 1. In fact, it was the main reason he took the job to direct X-Men 1. But from the spies inside Warner's, this is going to be not jsut a great movie, but a Fans dream. And with Donner on board, you know this will be great. I really think he doesn't want to direct it anymore.

Warner's is trying to work with Donner on a directors cut DVD for Superman 2 which would be his version. As you can see here, it looks like the only think they had to shoot left was the Niagra Falls scenes as most of the other scenes where shot.

If he did do it, he would have to use alot of Lesters scenes, and I am sure that is the hold up. I think Warner's is also having a hassle on price with the Salkinds, as they still own the rights to it. but since this will be an advertising tie in with this new film, I am sure that Warner's will pony up the money.

I also got word last night that there will be a Batman: Special Edition on DVD at Christmass with all new Burton footage, alot of extras, and a preview of Batman Begins.

But DOOMSDAY kicked his ass....

TWICE!

Bwahahahahaha!

Sounds like Warner may be learning from their mistakes (about damn time!)..the Superman movie sounds good so far, and the Batman movie sounds great.

Now if only we get good Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash movies...then maybe we'll eventually see a great live-action, Justice League movie.
