The Salkind brothers were a pair of vindictive wankers. The biggest and most stupid mistake they ever made was picking Richard Lester to be director. The only thing he did right was change the scene where Lois establishes that Clarke is Superman. (In my opinion Donner's version was the weaker.) But the rest of the changes to 2 weren't good, and 3 and especially 4 were steaming, stinking piles of earwig excrement!
😡
I am very happy to hear that Dick Donner is going to a producer of this one. I would ideally prefer him to direct as well, but anyone picked by him to do the job instead, must be pretty good. So this is, in effect, Superman 5, eh? I'm happy to hear that also. It has to be said though, that considering the last film was made 19 or 20 years ago, new actors would be needed anyway. Reeve and Margot Kidder are both in their 50's now and couldn't reprise their roles with any "verisimilitude". (One of Dick Donner's favourite words. lol)
However good or bad a job it is, it couldn't possibly be as bad as the one made by Dean Caine and Terri Hatcher. That was truly God-awful! Cain had two stances as Superman: Standing with arms folded and waving arms eratically while flying. Ugh!
I hope they will go for appearance and story, rather than getting wallowed up with a love of CG effects. In my opinion the effects on older films like the original Superman, The Omen, The Exorcist and so on, are more convincing and pleasing on the eye, even today, than all this garbage George Lucas has recently become obsessed with. Can anyone seriously say they preferred the CG Yoda in AOTC to the puppet one in TPM?
