Are there any Lord of the ring fans. Dont forget the Two towers comes out August 26th.

To say that I'm about of a LOTR fan is a bit like saying that Sauron was a bit of a bastard...I am well and truly looking forward to the next installment, I have already seen the trailor and I am *most* impressed 🙂

I am so in love with the LOTR films; the hubby and I already have a date on the sofa with our new huge flatscreen tv for the 26th, when our pre-ordered copy of the Two Towers is delivered:happyfloa

If I could have my tix for the Return of the King NOW, I would. We saw the TT opening night last winter and the comraderie amongst fans was intoxicating, can't wait.

While I'm not a huge, diehard fan of LOTRs, we did see the first one in the theater and enjoyed the hell out of it. And saw "The Two Towers" when it came out, and thought that was even more awesome than the first. Looking forward to "Return of the King" when it comes out this winter. What was my point again?

i'm not a big LOTR fan, but the 2 movies that came out are awesome!! i cant wait for the 3rd part. another thing i like about LOTR is that their trilogy came out in 2001, 2002, 2003. wheareas Star Wars had it in 1999, 2002, and finally 2005. damn George Lucas......

huge fans here

read the books, saw the first 2 movies on opening days, and will do the same with #3. it promises to be great!
long live the elves!
steve

Yes, the elves will live long.

I've been a Tolkein fan since I was 10. (15 years.) I was a bit concerned about them being made into films, because I thought a good enough job couldn't be done. I bought the 4 disk set of Fellowship and was very happy to be proved wrong. Havn't seen Towers yet, but will get the 4 disk set of that too and then go to see Return at the cinema as soon as it comes out. Long live Middle Earth!!! 😀

I love LOTR.

I haven't read the books yet (Though I plan on it soon, 'cause my cousin has them), but I have seen the first two movies. I didn't even know it existed up until the first movie come out. I love LOTR now! Best movies ever, to me anyway. I don't know whether I liked Two Towers more or less. They are both amazing, i'll just leave it at that. 🙂

Anyway, from what the actors and stuff are saying, seems like Return of the King is gonna be, like, better than the first two combined. At least, that's what Elijah Wood said. I can't wait! The preview on the DVD looked amazing! I also wanna play the video game, it looks better than the Two Towers video game, and that was great, really fun.

Blah. I am going to shut up now! Yippee!

Well, there is a line most fans draw, since all but the most die-hard fans, like me, read the "Sillmarion."🙄

Oh man, that book is THE BIBLE of Middle Earth!

Erudite wanker. 😛

wanking notwithstanding, I read The Hobbit and the Trilogy for the first time in 1974, and every 5 years or so I read it again. There's so much there that each time I pick up on something I didn't quite get the last time. The animated movies were kind of cool, but these full featured films are nothing short of magnificent. I'm really anticipating The Return of the King, as I'm curious to see how they portray The Paths of the Dead and Tol Brandir.

As for the Silmarillion, it is a much more difficult read. Consider that with The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings, you have four books that cover the last 150 years or so of the Third Age of Middle Earth. With The Silmarillion, you have one book to cover the first two ages and most of the third. There's a lot to tell and it's quite intensive. But if you read the Silmarillion, then reread the Lord of the Rings, you'll better understand the references to things like Gondolin, Beren and Luthien, and Eärendil. 🙂

There ya go. Couldn't have said it better.

And, you're definitely right. It is a more difficult read. Going with what Jim said, it almost is written like a holy book, or an ancient epic. Not the average book of today.

That is the sign of a real book lover! 🙂 When books change and evolve when re-read, it's like seeing something new all over again.

Of course Drew, you ain't as avid a fan as Christopher Lee. He makes a point of reading the trilogy every year! 😱

Yeah, The Silmarillion is a much harder read and one I couldn't complete till I was 22. (Found it too boring.) It's more of a potted history/narrative than a novel.

And of course my prize posession is an un-cut, unabridged audio book of Lord Of The Rings. All 48 hours of it! £135 it cost me. I do like to read, whilst being accompanied by the tape.

Yes it is, although J.R.R.'s son Christoper, edited it before the release. (His dad was RIP.)

As many of you know, I worked as a unit leader in a Girl Scout camp this summer. One of the units that I headed was was an archers program. I had 7 girls between the ages of 10 and 12. We did archery every day and even made our own arrows. The girls were great and very creative. They became the characters from Lord of the Rings and the whole week created this fantasy surrounding the characters. Every time we did archery, they were shooting at orcs.

I had never seen the movies or read the books, but my interest grew and I am now reading The Lord of the Fellowship.

BTW, I wanted them to assign me a character so they made me a hobbit called Merry. :sowrong:

I still have the cartoon movie trilogy on video tape. Pretty darn good for the day, but I'm glad the movies are FINALLY making it.

That "THe Fellowship of the Ring." LOL, sorry, I had too.😀 Ouch. They picked THAT character?😀

Oops. That's right. I just picked it up at the library and have not had the chance to read much of it yet. I knew it had Fellowship in it. LOL

They said that Merry was the only character left. I don't mind really, I was happy to be a part of the fantasy and of the program. I became a pretty decent archer despite a slight injury. There is a reason the Amazons cut off their left breast. Ouch

Ouch is right.:wow: Those cartoons were most excellent for their day, and they still are seen by many children. I'll bet alot of LOTR fans got introduced to it through them.

I remember reading the Hobbit in 6th grade for an assignment. The movie was descent, but not my cup of tea. Loved up and read LotR for the first time later that year. SInce then I've been an avid Tolkien fan, reading his other works, Adventures of Tom Bombadill, Silmarillion, and some of his shorts. For a short time I even helped a friend run an now defunct LotR fan site.

I cannot wait till RotK comes out this December. I've already made plans with friends back home for an extended version marathon followed by a midnight showing opening night.

Wow, you guys are true fans! It's nice to see works of (dare I say it?) classic literature getting the recognition that they deserve. Some people can sit back with their copies of "Jane Eyre" and "Sense and Sensibility" and call Tolkien's books "trash" and "rags" (I've actually heard this,) but consider that these works of "Literature" by "refined authours" were, in the days of old, and are still now, boring school children to death! The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Hobbit prequel, and these other books which are foriegn to me, originally thrilled readers, and still do to this day!
As a self proclaimed master of the English Language (it's a real pity I can't spell) I am astounded by Tolkien's true mastery of English. He uses language like an artist's paintbrush to create this picture of life in a world called Middle Earth. Not only does Tolkien create multiple languages from thin air, but he writes with them, he translates them into each other, and most astounding of all, he evolves these languages over thousands of years, marrying them, and allowing them to borrow from each other.
This, along with the fact that the story simply kicks ass, is the mark of a true Classic Author
