If you asked her, she'd tell you what a wonderful man I am. She'd say I was kind, gentle, humble, talented, outgoing and loved by all. If I had any flaws at all, she had no ability to see them. She never failed to tell me how much she loved me yet she expected nothing from me. When I was a young boy, she would give me the last dime she had whenever I asked and I never had any idea that she might be experiencing financial troubles. She wanted me to go on and live my life and always said didn't want to interfere. When I stumbled, she was always there though, never letting me fall. She was the kind of person you'd never notice. She was meager, to herself and completely devoted to her family.
She was really a simple gal from Pennsylvania who felt unfullfilled till she adopted her only son at 43 years old. Her world was that boy.
Two days ago I cast her ashes and a wreath of roses out into the Gulf of Mexico and through tears, watched that wreath float away. I had to steady my aging father on the rolling water. My biggest fan is gone.
I will miss you Mom.
