Yesterday was the 75th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's famous speech at Yankee Stadium on the occasion of the special day held for him. He had been forced to retire from baseball due to the degenerative muscle disease ALS and the event raised money to help pay for his medical treatment.
At every MLB stadium yesterday, special ceremonies were held to remember this event and to raise money for research into ALS, which eventually killed Mr. Gehrig.
