Love Hina Weekend Update (F/F, upperbody)

Here are some pictures I drew during the week. The last one is a tickle picture. 🙂 These pictures are large, and so may need to be resized in order to view them at their actual size (otherwise they look all choppy).

#1) The Sword Dancer

Here's an oekaki of Motoko Aoyama (from Love Hina) in mid-movement as she trains. ^__^


#2) China Doll

Here's my first picture of Tsuruko Aoyama (Motoko's older sister) from Love Hina. I call this one China Doll because she's very beautiful, like a china doll (and no she's not Chinese, she's Japanese for those that wouldn't know). Don't let her soft, gentle appearance decieve you. She's a master swordswoman, is in charge of the Aoyama family dojo located in beautiful Kyoto, and is amazingly powerful and vicious in combat. ^__^


#3) Sister Sister

Here's an oekaki of Motoko and Tsuruko, the Aoyama sisters (from Love Hina) posing for a photo. ^__^


#4) No Excuses!

Here's one of Motoko incuring one of the wraths of her elder sister (a good tickling) for lying to her about being engaged to marry when she's not (Motoko lies about it in order to disqualify herself from inheriting the Aoyama family dojo/school because she's not ready for the responsibility yet). In the series Tsuruko has a menacing looking face when this happens, and goes medieval on Motoko, all but scaring the soul out of her after saying "no excuses", and thats when Tsuruko puts her foot down and does something. This is a more fun, cuter, lighter, and entertaining approach to that. ^__^

All of these pictures were drawn/colored on my tablet in Painter 9.

I agree keep this together, reminds too much of a scene from the manga too. (only love hina I have experienced, and poor Motoko gets in a sitch where she would be a tickle victim much later on)

Anyway great work on all 4 man.

@ sailornapper- Thank you. Ken Akamatsu's work continues to be a good source of inspiration for drawing these characters or these types of characters.

@ Falcon- Thank you. 🙂


@ rajee- Thank you. But the tablet is just the tablet, in the end, a tool in the digital medium. A very good tool at that though. It makes drawing alot easier digitially. I suppose, if anything, its a change from mainly just drawing traditionally with pencils and paper. Having the tablet doesn't really change anything, but it does allow me more access to digital mediums and makes them easier to work with.

@ sexygamedesigns- Thank you. Tsuruko is one of those characters inparticular who despite being a minor character in the series, is easy to blend into a more active role and drawing usage (at least for me, since I like her). She's the kindly serene character with class, but can fall into other roles without difficulty. And it definitely helps that she's Motoko's sister. Motoko had to grow up following the path and inspiration of someone, so Tsuruko is really important in forming part of who Motoko is. The two characters add much substance to eachother, and when you put them together it works well.

You get better drawing natural situations and even making them get tickled like if it were something "not ment to be" (like the most situations we like!!!)

@ rajee- Thats why I asked him that though. There are any number of instances that could have been tickling situations and I was wondering which one(s) he was talking about.

EDIT: It may give me future ideas for tickling pictures.

I would like to add that I like how you have drawn the folds in the clothing. The shadow around them was a nice touch. It added 3-dimensionality to the clothing. The highlights in the hair and eyes are great as well.

Yeah, I paid better mind to the pleating of their uniforms that I have before. But then again I've only drawn Motoko several times and Tsuruko never until now.

I think what will really spice up drawing either of these characters again is drawing them wearing something else other than their kendo uniforms.

Too often do people draw the characters in the basic outfit all the time.

Like in the Simpsons for example, they've all been wearing the same clothes for...what...how long as the show been on? Its been on for more than 14 years.

And nobody grows any older. They say they do but nothing actually changes.
Of course, they have to do this to prolong the series, but they could tinker with the idea of changing their clothes once a season. Or maybe not. People recognize them that way, so it may not help.
