Lucas to Release Star Wars Films in 3-D
Source: The Hollywood Reporter March 18, 2005

George Lucas is planning to remaster all of the "Star Wars" films for rerelease in 3-D, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The director, who is releasing Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith on May 19th, said he hadn't yet committed to a precise schedule but hoped to have the first film ready for the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars movie in 2007 and that he would then rerelease one "Star Wars" film per year in 3-D.

Lucas and 20th Century Fox screened the first six minutes of "Revenge of the Sith" at ShoWest on Thursday and he talked more about the film.

"It's not like the first one. It's more emotional. I describe it as a 'Titanic' in space. It's a real tearjerker, and it will be received in a way that none of us can expect," he said.

stop george for gods sake its over. Let May 19th be the last movie. Go run around in your ewok outfits.😀

Ahhhh......leave the guy alone. They are his films and he can do what he wants with them. And if he does release them in 3-D, it's just another version. Like 30 million people won't buy it? 🙄

If it ends up looking anything like FF7 Advent Children then sure, ill watch em.

Just what the New Coke execs said back in the 80s.

About their soda, I mean.

I love SW...but I think he's just trying to make his millions again...ya know?

I love Star Wars and 3-D movies, but can't he just make a 3-D star Wars movie instead of recycling all the other stuff? What about a movie after Han and Leia get married? Or a movie taking place before Episode 1, with the tensions developing between the Trade Federation and the Naboo. Or, or, or, a movie where we learn about what the Sith is and all their "there is always 2, an apprentice and a master...." Or reshoot the first movie from one of the first drafts when things were very different, remaking his original as a cinematic experiment (like if Dangerous Liasions and Valmont were directed by the same guy). Lucas can milk it for all he wants; why can't he just milk it in a different way?

I don't have any problem with Lucas making 3D versions of the old movies. I would probably do the same thing in his place.
