First post.

Welcome to the forum. We've got quite an active Northern community in the UK these days, including a semi-regular munch (usually) in Leeds if you can get to it. There's also the big Squeal weekender coming up this weekend in Birkenhead, if you fancy meeting the community? Lots of us will be travelling in from all over the country (and even beyond...) Most people find the social element a good way of easing into the scene, if you inexperienced.
