Before Steriods and Bud Selig coming up with the postage stamp strike zone games were played routinely in 2 Hours or less.


As far as Mark Buehrle is concerned, what a GREAT performance. Great job by Ken " Hawk " Harrelson by letting people know there was a Perfect Game going on. Fantastic job with calling the game. Was not superstitous at all.

DeWayne Wise, probably one of the greatest catchest in ninth taking a homerun away from Gabe Kapler and preserving the Perfect Game.

Hell Buehrle isn't superstitious either

Most pitchers during tense moments like no hitters\perfect games sit by themselves and no one bothers him

Notes:

Koufax struck of a majority of the batters (14 out of 27) as well as getting 27 outs in a row.

The total hits by both teams in a complete 9 inning game was 1, a record low, and only one above the theoretical minimum of 0.

The total plate appearances by both teams in a complete 9 inning game was 53, a record low and only one above the theoretical minimum of 52.

A truly historic moment in major league baseball. The fact that Buehrle pitched only the 18th perfect game in the history of the sport should tell people how rare a feat it truly is. Masterful performance. And Wise deserves a really, really nice gift from Buehrle for that catch in the 9th.

I like Mark Buerhrle, I really do. I have him on six of my 20 Fantasy Teams but certainly you can't seriously consider him a future Hall of Famer.

Now if he pitches another ten seasons and he does exactly what he has done to this point, then yes he is. But that is a BIG if. Usually they start to slow a bit at around 35 or so. I mean he is 30 right now. But I do hope you are right because I am a fan of Buerhrle. Just for kicks and giggles below are his career numbers included in it are the year by year breakdown. He is a VERY good pitcher.

He has never been injured and is a pitcher that does not require speed\high torque. He is effective because he can drop 8-10 mph from his fastball\changeup which is just as good as someone throwing 100 mph. He has had only 1 season where he did not have a winning record and he still was in double digits. He is very young for a pitcher. Many pitchers go into their 40s, esp low impact ones like Buehrle. Its not unreasonable to believe his performance should maintain a decent level as it has. He has good mechanics and is on a team that can outslug teams(at times and as long as its not the twins)

As a born and bred northsider I can still give the props to Buehrle, he's a great pitcher and a great teammate to boot.

However I must still get in my White Sox jab and add that I thought a perfect game for the Sox was making it nine innings without a riot.
