Mark McGwire`s name is on the ballot for election into the baseball Hall Of Fame. Big Mac is the first of many star players who will eligable in the coming years that have been accused of using steroids. Here are some of his statistics, and his all time ranking. The letter "X" means they are still an active player.
AT-BATS PER HOME RUN
1. McGwire...10.61
2. Babe Ruth.11.76
3. x- Barry Bonds...12.95

SLUGGING PERCENTAGE
9. x- Todd Helton...5932
10. McGwire...5882
11. x- Vladlmir Guerrero...5827
12. Joe Di Maggio...5788

RBI`S
81. Lou Brock...1422
82. McGwire...1414
83. x- Bernie Williams...1388

HOME RUNS
6. Frank Robinson...586
7. McGwire...583
8. Harmon Killebrew...573

I would like your opinions whether you believe Mark McGwire should be elected into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. Remember, he is just the first of the steroid era to be eligable, there will be many more to follow. Bonds, Sosa, Palmaro etc. Personally, even though I got caught up in the "Summer Of 98" excitement when Big Mac hit 70 home runs and Sammy Sosa hit 66, I would not vote for McGwire or for that matter any of them. They cheated, and McGwires refusal to talk at the congressional committee hearings was the final straw for me.

I have a strong sense of honor and would never vote for a cheater, no matter how minor it might have been.

Ever since he went to Capitol Hill I've disliked him. He made himself look like a fool that day and until he answers some simple questions I say no.

There is no place for drug cheats in the Hall of Fame, and that can be said for any sport.

Now wait a minute!

I personally think the guy made himself out to be a horses ass at the congressional hearings, but there are some players that are in the HOF that have pretty checkered pasts. I would make an argument for Pete Rose being in the HOF but what he did was a damage to the integrity of the game. I mean, how can he go in and manage a team he bet against? That is not how the game is supposed to be played.

While McGwire admitted (silently) of taking Steriods, and consequently inflating his home run totals, let's not forget that he missed a total of about two years of playing time becvause of injuries. For those who say that his home run total is artificially inflated, I think it would be offset by the number of games he missed had he been healthy. That would give him approximately the same number of HR's for his career, and we all see the company he is in with those numbers.

Let him in!

Short of conviction in a criminal court of a felony involving baseball, entrance into the Hall of Fame should only reflect performance on the field.

Joe Jackson should be in the HOF, as should Mark McGwire. Not Peter Rose.

It remains to be seen if the Evil One will be convicted.
