I've had a lump on my gums, near the floor of my mouth, for a long time. I went to the dentist 7 months ago, and he told me that he thought it was a blocked saliva gland. He told me to wait, and see if it goes away on it's own. I waited six months, it was still there. I decided I had to go back to the dentist. He told me that since it was still there, and had gotten a little bigger, that I needed a biopsy. I never once gave thought to the possibility that this was anything serious.
The results came in, and it turns out that not only do I have a tumor, but it's malignant. I was obviously devastated at the news...
Honestly, now that I reflect, I am no longer afraid. I know that the "worst case scenario", is finally being reunited with lost loved ones in the glorious kingdom of Jesus Christ.
I am fearful, of course, but I feel that I can beat this, and I won't give up.
