Tonight is the four week mark in the baseball season, and has anyone noticed how decidely mediocre most of the teams in major league baseball are so far this season? Except for Toronto (18-9) St Louis, (17-8) LA Dodgers (18-8), and Boston (15-10) every team is either a game or two above 500 or below 500, or downright awful. Case in point, my Braves are not playing well at 11-13, and are thankfully, for me, only 2-1-2 games out of first place in the NL East, because all the big boys in the East, the Mets, Phils, and Marlins, are all just as mediocre as they are. I dont know whether teams have just gotten off to a slower than usual start this year, or whether or not there are just a lot of mediocre to bad teams in baseball this year.

Thoughts on this?

The Royals are off to a much improved start...hardly compared to the previous Aprils. Their offense is a bit shaky, but they are getting those much needed wins thanks to their much improved pitching rotation, minus Ponson who needs to go to Omaha in exchange for Hochevar....including the game's best pitcher at this time, the 5-0 Zack Greinke

and a stud closer in Soria, I may add.

...and they are in FIRST PLACE at 14-11. Hardly mediocre at this point.

It's still early, so no doubt things will even out. I'm hoping the younger pitching for my Orioles can help get a turnaround started, but I do feel as though this year is purely developmental once again. It's great to see such awesome numbers out of the top of our lineup, though. Roberts, Jones and Markakis have been murder on opposing pitching and are a great core to continue to build around.

There are only 4 teams in Major League Baseball that matter:

1. New York Yankees
2. New York Mets
3. LA Dodgers
4. Boston Red Sox

All other teams are forced to take a backseat to these 4 big market giants. It's sad and I miss the good old days when George Brett played for the Royals and it meant something but those days are gone and baseball is a buisness not a sport anymore. Next sport to be destroyed by greed is the NFL with this overtaxing 18 game schedule they are forcing on the already injury prone players. I really don't watch sports anymore like I used to...it's too much like watching the stock market. Just about $$$$$ not the championship ring. 🙁

Have always been a tribe fan, not looking to good this season so far. Will be going to Progressive field friday night to watch them play the kitties.

Correction...6-0. :woot2:

I'm fairly disappointed by the Cubs start this year. Granted there have been some injuries, but good teams play around those injuries. It is only May so I'm not too worried yet considering they are just 3 back of the Cards. Still, I expected big things out of the team this year and would like to see them start producing.

It would figure. I post this thread about "mediocre baseball teams", and then my Braves lose two straight games to the Mets in Atlanta, and are about to go from "mediocre" to "bad" in a hurry, if they dont get their butts in gear.

The Yankees and Braves are the two biggest disappointments thus far, but as we know, it's only early May, so teams have time to get themselves back on track.

Having the luxury of living in Detroit, our Tigers are mediocre at best. That being said, there really isn't much disappointment when we don't make the playoffs. I'd rather have a mediocre Tigers season than watch the Lions!
