There are many for me. The first dog in our house that I remember was Pogo, a little mutt of indeterminate heritage. Short hair, maybe 20 lbs. He was a loyal and loving little guy who often followed me around when I roamed my little hometown in search of adventure or trouble, depending on my mood. When we came home after a day away or vacation he greeted us by jumping up and down, licking our faces and running in circles. It was a sad day when my father took him to the vet that last time.
The first cat I remember was Bomber, an orange and white tabby. Even as a kitten he loved to climb as high as possible then jump off, which made us think of dive bombers, hence the name. One day dad was backing out of the driveway and poor Bomber was killed, which made dad feel terrible. But, it was not his fault. Just one of those things.
There is something about the unconditional love our pets offer us. They ask so little, and give so much in return. I will never understand people who get a dog, cat or any pet then ignore them. What's the point in that?
