Looks like a clover mite to me MP. They don't bite or do any damage but they can be a pain in the rear. Hint: do not squash them with anything, they can leave a stain. If you need some help getting them under control I can post a link or two. Just let me know.
Yes Carl, they are, and it's been going on for some time now actually. Anyone who travels a lot, particularly outside the US can bring them back in luggage for example and have no idea. And once they are here they can spread quickly. I dealt with this many times when I was in the pest control business.
