I dont know how many baseball fans heard about this trade, but, last night, the New York Mets traded outfielder Ryan Church to the Atlanta Braves, for struggling outfielder Jeff Francouer.

I blog on the Atlanta Journal Counstitution website.. For the last several weeks, fans and sports writers on the AJC website have been calling for Francouer to be traded. Beat writer Mark Bradley of the AJC called the trade a "sad but necessary ending to the Francouer era in Atlanta. "

Both teams are struggling, with the Braves five games out of first, and the Mets 6 1-2 out of first, so it will be interesting to see what impact, if any, the trade has.

If anyone has the link to this story, and could post it, it would be appreciated.

Thoughts on this trade?

Mitch

I saw Citi Field for the first time this week, watching the Dodgers score 23 runs there in 3 games, only good enough to win two out of three. The first thing that I noticed when taking my seat there was the huge right field, 415 feet in right/center field, deeper than straight-away center field.

That makes Citi Field an unfriendly place for left handed batters. Church should be happy to be out of there. I can see why the Mets wanted to replace him with a right handed outfielder.

We'll see how it works out, but I don't think either of those teams will catch the Phillies this year.

I think the trade was a wash. Both guys are steady major leaguers but nothing more. Maybe the change of addresses will help them start over with new teams.

Did you notice Manny doing Steriods out in Left Field???

You were critical of Barry Bonds as was I, but now you MUST paint your Dodgers with that same brush you have painted the Giants with all these years. CHEATERS!!! That is provided you want to be fair.

Manny let down his team by using a banned substance. I do condemn him for that.

It is worth noting that Manny freely admitted his offense while Bonds lied about his under oath.

But Manny served his suspension as required and is now entitled to play to the best of his ability. I hope he plays well and that the Dodgers get to the World Series this year.

As for the hated jints, I hated them long before MLB even had any rules about steroids.

PS: Let's not hijack this thread, which is about the Mets-Braves trade. If you want to discuss Bonds vs. Ramirez, please start a new thread.
