Okay, last night I guess I could say that I got with the rest of the world, or most people anyway, and finally went to see Harry Potter. I confess that I have never read even a page of Ms JK Rowling's mega successful books, or watched even a minute of her movies, in either the theater, on cable, or DVD. Last night, more for the novelty, and the "what the hell" aspect, my best friend and I went to see the midnight showing of Harry Potter. I confess that for a first time viewer of Potter, I found it very entertaining. I felt myself a bit confused at times, but actually enjoyed it.
Iam certainly aware of the immense box office power of Potter, but was amazed at the size of the audience for the midnight showing, and the large number of young viewers there on a school night. My friend and I sat next to one family, where the mother said, that her children slept about 3 hours yesterday afternoon, went to see Potter, and then would go to sleep at 3am after the movie, with the promise that everyone would be awake and out to school on time.
So did anyone else take in a Potter midnight showing? I'm sure many plan to see it. It was definitely an experience for me!

Nope...cant say as I see the attraction to Harry. I saw the first at the theater and left halfway through. Even though I had not read the story I found the film predictable and very boring...

My wife loves the stories. I find them to be cute for what they are, but will pass....better things to do with the money....and my time... :cat:

i have no interest in harry potter movies but thats just me. i'm with venray, better ways to throw away my money. i would like to go see the remake of pride and prejudice however. i havent been to a movie in years. i cant sit still long enough lol anyway mitchell hope you had fun.

That's cool, Ray. I cant say that I loved it, or was into it so much, that I would go back to see another Potter film, if they made one, I more went for the experience.
Isabeau, yes, I did have fun, but usually I have a taste for far different type of movies. I also saw Derailed yesterday afternoon. That was certainly an action packed movie! I want to see Pride and Prejudice. That looks like a good one!

I'm just up on the whole Harry Potter thing. Never read the books. Our radio station did a special advance showing of the first movie a few years back, and I fell asleep halfway through. When it came out on dvd, I rented it, intent on making it through. Again...waaaaaaaaay sleepy, but I managed to finish it. Rented the second movie, fell asleep again and gave up on it.

Guess I'll go back to watching my "High Tension"/"The Devil's Rejects" double feature now 😱

I'm seeing the movie tonight. I've read all the books and seen all the films, but I wouldn't say I'm a fan. I'm not a Potter freak, even though sometimes I have been wittily nicknamed 'Harry Potter' by kids stupid enough to think that because I sometimes wear glasses I must have a lightning-shaped scar on my forehead. However, I find the the whole franchise enjoyable and occasionally amusing, and I have great appreciation for what Rowling has done. To introduce so many kids to reading can't be a bad thing. As they grow older they'll realise that there's a lot of better, and more mature, fantasy fiction around.
